Training and Education (including future of laboratory animal science communication}., Innovations in 3Rs explorlng alternatives in preclinical testing, foll¢)wed by a roundtsble discussion and discussions on Regulatory and Policy frameworks. The Keynote presentslions will be delivered by intemational experts in their field and will focus on translation of animal research to further understand emenlia causing diseases with further talks on the underpinning of animal model research, new technologies and their translation and applicability. Promulgation of the bgngfits of LASA membership amongst Ihe18boralory anlmal science communlty so as lo encourage applications from individuals and institutions. Flnanclol Revlew LASA'S end of yèar balance stands at £167,398. However, this has been supported by a refund arising from a meeting that was cancelled during the pandemic l AST2020'1. Many delegates who were entllled to a refund of thelr reglslralion fee did not to respond to rep8ated requests for an invoice to aclivale that process. The AST2020 account has now closed and the residual funds distributed equally beeen the IAT and LASA {£25,389. 8achl. This one-off payment IAST2020 refund) enabled LASA to 8ttain an apparent operating profit for Ihls year The balance also inGlude$ sponsorship from 'Laboralory Animals, journal (Euro 5,5001£4,71611 and the NC3Rs1£4000), which are reserved for bursaries and prvzes al the forthcoming 2023 annual meeting. When taklng these exceptional sources of income into account. LASA has an underlying operating deficit of more than £17,000, which is not sustainable in the long-term. Arising from uncertainties about the likely attendance at the annual meeting12022}, Council approved a decision to cancel plans for a meeting al a large conference cenlre. To reduce costs, it was decided lo hold smaller luniversity-basedl meeting instead. The vISed format was similar to meetings LASA held in the distant past.. in particular to offer a comparatively small-s¢ale, lable-lop Trade Exhibition. These decisions enabled the annual meeling to yield a small profil1£2,5641. Plans for a similar, small-scale meeb.ng in 2023, 10 be held at an academic research cenlre, are al an advanced stage. LASA'S full annual complement of educational (section} meetings has yet to relum to normal, but the 3R8 Section ran a highly successful meeting, which generated a welcome profiL However, the meetings of the PELh forum continue lo accumulate a deficit LASA needs to instigate prccesses to ensure that this trend is reversed in the future. LASA has also written off £2.460 of bad debts.

These bursanes are in line with our charitable purposes and will enable up to 10 delegates to attend the Annual Meeling120231, which will be our 60th anniversary. The CPD scheme is clearly popular but, should demand for CPD credrts increase, running this scheme wlll become a significant expense. 1¢h mlght need mrtigation. Membership income has fallen slightly since last year. Ideally, LASA should alm to ensure that the members, subscriptsons cover the cost of the Secretariat's day-to4ay Iroutinel activities. For that reason, the subscription fee will need to increase in 2023- 2024 Ito £701. Because the economic climate and changes io the Secretsrial contr8¢t make it inevitable that cost of running the Secretariat will increase substantially in 2024, further increases in members, subs¢ription fee will te necessary over the following years. al least. Rk Manag•m•nt The Iruslees acknowledge their responsibilities and recognise that good prath'ce includes consideration and reporting of risk management. LASA'S risk register has contlnued lo be reviewed al every meeting of Council, this year. In addition, LASA has refined its financial risk profile for running large meetings su¢h as our annual meellng,. in particular, attendegs now organise their own acGommodalion so there is no financial burden to LASA. LASA is reviewing the rol8 specifications for members of Council and has conducted a gap analysis on Council membership to ensure succession planning and delivery of LASA'S objectives over the forthcoming years, The bylaws have been updated lo reflect the needs of LASA. Expeclatlons for counoil members have been develoFed and a revlew of the way LASA council and sections works will be conducted in early 2024. A8 a Council we are keen to allow the opportunity lo bring in new members as part of our succe885on planning. Over the wmSng year we wlll also as an executive team and Council embark on working together lo dellver a strategK five-year business plan.
