Tlie TrLlStees are aware of their responsibilities to assess ri sks in relation
to its activities. To tliis end tlie Cliiirch lias adopted tlie Safe Giiardiii
Policy produced by the United Refornied Churcli Northern Synod and
liave appointed a dedicated Safe Guarding Co-ordinator and Assistant.

for all cliildren of any age wliicli comprises of a Creclie area and
a working area for crafts and games related to a Bible story.
At present there are 81 ineinbers on the Churcli Roll, with l O adherents
and 6 on tlie Coininiinity Roll.
We Iiad a regviilar attendance on a Sunday morning of 45 people.

The last Sunday eveniiig of the Inoiith a service is held in tlie chiirch witli
the service being led by the ininister or a visiting preacher. with abolit 15
people attending.
We Iiave a very committed team of people combining Pastoral and
Congyregyatioii Care iliider tlie title of Congyregratioiial Care Team.
Additionally. in 2024 we continued witli a HleLklJ Ilpdale to all ineinbers
ot.the chLirch to Iielp maintain links across the congregation.
The Churcli members also sponsor three cliildren tliroiigh Compassion
UK. One yoiing boy Gilbert now 9 years old is froin Rwanda, as do
individiial Ineinbers of tlie conglregation. Café 221 also sponsors a child.
Tlie Chiirch prodiices a montlily magazine wliich is available for all
people coiinecied to tlie Cl)Iircli, wliicli iiicliides frieiids, fain ilies,
students and tlie community. Ill 2020 this was redesigllied and is delivered

St Coliiinba's is a Ineimber of Chiirches Together in Nortli Shields,
represented by one or two Members of the Churcli and our Minister. T]iis
is a body of varioiis Churcli denominations who ineet on a regiilar basis

to arrange joint ecuinenical services, discuss matters of ecuinenical
interest and seek to work closely within the coinmunity.
Financial Review
The Church has a policy of maintaiiiing SLifficient reserves to provide the
necessary incoine for tlie eft'icieiit riiiiningy of tlie Cliiirch's adill iiiistration.
The Churcli Iiolds £30,000 in a Biiildiiigs Reserve as well as 6 inontlis of
anniial bLidgeted expenditiire in a Geiieral Reserve Fiind. At the end of
the year £7,000 was taken froin the Biiildings Reserve to cover tlie cost of
the imexpected ininor M'orks reqiiired to the biiilding. It is intended that
the £7,000 w'ill be replaced in 2025.
Statement of Receipts and Payments
Total receipts oli tlie iiiirestricted General Accoiiiit were £104,576 ai)d
paymeiit froin the account totalled £l12.828. resLiltinLF in a deficit on the
year of £8,252. Tliis left tlie General Accoiint standingi at £3.372.
Whilst we ended the year witli a deficit. it was encoiiragrinLy tliat we
elided ihe year £16.-369 better off tliaii we liad budgyeied for. DiiriiigF tlie
year we had a coiisiderable amount of Ininor works to cary OLIt. wliicli
ainouiited to an expeiiditiire of £7.6.39. Tliis was oftset at ihe end of the
year by a traiisfer of £7,000 froin the BuildiiiLiS Reserve. We also
replaced oiir agied projector witli Screens costingl £ 11 ,184 which was
covered by a gFrant of £9,000 and a drawdowii froin tlie Jaiiet Dall
Tlioinsoii Cliarity of £2,000. Particiilarly encoiiragyiiigy was tliat offering.

Total receipts on tlie Desigynated Reserves were £77,240 and payments
froin tl)csc rcscrvcs tolallcd £97,847 givingr a dcficit on thc ycar of
£20,606. This left the Desiginated Reserves staiidingi at a total of £81,.776.
£6,872 of this is Legyacies wliicli are lield awaitingi allocatioii wliilst
£23,000 is held in a Biiildiiigys Reserve and £51,-314 in a General Reserve
Fiiiid. Tlie liigyli level ot" Inoveineiit on tliis reserve was diie to sigFiiiticant
expenditiire OTJ inajor Roof and Sioiiework repairs, a large portion or
wliich was offset by grants.
Total receipts on the Restricted Reserves were £9,366 and payinents from
these reserves totalled £1 0,207 giving a deficit on tlie year of £841. Tl)is
left tlie Restricted Reserves standing at a total of £2,953.
Tlie Trustees al so Iiave available to thein tlie fiiiids held iii Tlie Janet Dall
Thomson Cliarity, which has as its Ciistodian Trustees tlie United
Refonned Cliurch (Nortliern Province) Triist. Tlie Balance of the Charity
on 31 December 2024 was £36,070.85.

Late in the year we held a successful Stewardship Campaign which
ghould inflate our offering income from the congregation by £11,035.
This has enabled us to fotec&st a £4,000 deficit in 2025. Our grateful
thanks go to the congregation for their generous support.
Whilst our reserves reduced over the vear they are still sufficient
to cover any shortfall that we may incur in the coming year.
