Supporting cultural developments in Gloucester

Trustees Report for GUST Charity No 1164727 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024

GUST has continued to focus on cultural capacity building in the city of Gloucester through 2023-24. Over this period, we have particularly supported one live programme, Voices, whilst also offering broader support to partners in the arts, culture and heritage sectors.

## **Voices Gloucester:**

Over the past twelve months GUST has continued to incubate Voices, supporting the team in the transition to establishing an independent charity from late 2024.

Focussing on delivering the final elements of a two-year National Lottery Heritage Fund programme, Voices has had considerable success in highlighting hidden histories and promoting wider engagement in heritage. Highlights have included:

- supporting local family historian Kelly Marie Horsley to shine a light on the Romany/Gypsy community in Gloucester in a series of events

- Threads, a significant project exploring heritage through textiles including the creation of a collaborative Costume for Gloucester

- working with artists and residents to deliver a series of installations onsite at Clapham Court, a local residential landmark scheduled for demolition

Information about all Voices activity in this period is available online - (https://voicesgloucester.org.uk/voices archive/).

## **Supporting Cultural Regeneration in Gloucester:**

Trustees continue to contribute to meetings and interactions to support growth and development of the cultural life of the city. In 2023-24 we have been particularly involved in city-wide exploration of producer capacity building. This has involved working with a range of stakeholders from across the county including Create Gloucestershire, The Roses Tewkesbury, Strike A Light and a wealth of independent creatives.

Reflecting GUST’s ongoing commitment to supporting the development of Gloucester’s cultural sector, we have continued to work closely with strategic lead organisation Gloucester Culture Trust. GUST supported the development of a cross-sector Arts Council England Place Partnership bid, operating as a partner in the application. The Together Gloucester project was awarded £500,000 for a three-year initiative designed to put communities at the heart of decision making around arts and culture. GUST is one of nine partners collaborating to deliver Together Gloucester and we will be focussing on incubating emerging cultural organisations and individuals from March 2024-March 2027.

The total income for the charity in the year to March 31st 2024 was £149,564 against £116,476 year ended March 31st 2023. We closed the year with cash of £62,026, of which £59,005 is identified as restricted funds allocated to Voices.
