Supporting cultural developments in Gloucester 

Trustees Report for GUST Charity No 1164727 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023 

GUST has continued to focus on cultural capacity building in the city of Gloucester through 2022-23. Over this period, we have particularly supported one live project, whilst also offering broader support to partners in the arts, culture and heritage sectors. 

## **Voices Gloucester:** 

GUST continues to nurture City Voices, which rebranded as Voices Gloucester in late 2022. Focussing on the development of a community led, year-round programme of events, Voices is now established as a key creative heritage programme in the city. 2022-23 was year two of Voices’ National Lottery Heritage Funded activity and the project also secured support from individuals, Gloucester City Council and Gloucester BID. 

The Trustees worked to support the Voices leadership team in developing an innovative programming model and establishing the programme in the city. Voices aims to: 

- challenge what history is, in a safe, supportive environment 

- respect and represent new voices 

- offer unexpected perspectives on events 

- spark new conversations 

- connect communities with shared experiences 

- inspire more people to connect with the heritage, history and community of Gloucester

## **Supporting Partners in Gloucester:** 

Alongside Voices Gloucester, GUST has continued to support partners in the arts, culture and heritage sectors in the city of Gloucester. Trustees regularly attend meetings and interactions to support growth and development in the cultural life of the city and, as both individuals and an organisation, we continue to operate as influencers and critical friends to a range of partners. In 2022-23 we continued to support a local creative organisation, School of Larks (https://schooloflarks.com/) in securing grant funding for innovative work in aerial and circus skills. 

## **Future Ambitions:** 

The ongoing cultural regeneration of Gloucester was acknowledged in late 2022 as several of GUST’s partners in the city were awarded National Portfolio Organisation status by Arts Council England. GUST has particularly focussed on collaborating with Gloucester Culture Trust 

(https://gloucesterculture.org.uk/) in developing NPO activity plans and identifying opportunities for GUST to support strategic partnership development in the city. This area of expertise development will be a focus for GUST in 2023-24. 

The total income for the charity in the year to March 31st 2023 was £116,476 against £75,750 year ended March 31st 2022. We closed the year with cash of £43,653, of which £40,921 is identified as restricted funds allocated to Voices.
