manage the operational side of brass banding;
and building the longer-term future of the
band. During the course of 2024-25, we have
established an instrument tuition scheme with
a dedicated tutor for the first time in a
generation, with outreach to local primary
schools. We once again competed as a band at
the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Competition
in March 2025 and were placed second, with
an invitation to the National Finals - only the
second time in our history that this has
happened, and on the back of our success in
2024. The band has continued to perform in a
mix of settings, including full-scale concerts,
traditional park performances, and community
engagements like the Rushbearing, Norland
Scarecrow Festival and Remembrance Sunday
services at two locations nearby. The band has
been able to attract new players to fill spaces
left as players either retire or move to other
bands, but a continual issue is how we attract
and retain players from a diminishing pool
against a very vibrant local brass band
community. We are especially grateful to our
supporters and donors - their contribution has
allowed the band to thrive despite limited
