## Zero Carbon North Somerset

Trustee Report - 2023

## Dear Supporters and Stakeholders,

I am pleased to present the Trustee Report for Zero Carbon North Somerset (ZCNS) for the year 1st January 2023 - 31st December 2023. We are committed to the mission of our organisation, which is to enable North Somerset to move towards net zero by supporting environmental and climate focused community groups.

## Financial Overview

Thanks to funding grants our financial capacity has grown. In 2023, we did not receive any further funding in donations and grants directly to ZCNS, but we were granted an extension to utilise funds from previous grants. These funds were allocated as follows:

- £568.80 was used for website expenses, directly supporting our environmental initiatives.

- £96.00 was dedicated to administrative costs, ensuring the efficient operation of our charity.

- £81.95 was used for events and promotional materials.

- In addition, £1457.69 was invested in the Home Energy Taskforce (HET) initiative, and the HET received £10,100 in grants and donations.

- In accordance with our partnership offer to assist small community groups, we were the nominated recipient for Yatton Repair Café for funding towards expenses for their repair initiative. This helped the repair cafe to use funds donated from Yatton Parish Council to purchase repair cafe insurance and a

machine.

## Programme Highlights

Throughout 2023, we achieved several significant milestones:

1. Hiring a Freelance Administrator, to manage the website, emails and communication and to generate interest about the group via social media and other communications.

2. Agreed and formed a core team of trustees and the management committee.

3. Significant progress on updating of website, calendar of (low carbon) events and liaison with various community groups and stakeholders.

## Challenges and Future Plans

While we celebrate our successes, we also acknowledge the challenges we face:

1. Limited resources (both volunteering and staffing) to carry out the growth of membership – we have made significant progress with member engagement, but volunteer numbers are still low and it is difficult to engage members in the community with our organisation.

2. National and central government challenges - in the coming year, we will expand our advocacy efforts to promote sustainable policies and engage with stakeholders at both a local and national level. We will choose to focus on local campaigns and build up local engagement with our local government representatives, such as by attending the Climate & Sustainability Partnership community meetings and other meetings with our local council.

## Transparency and Accountability

We remain committed to transparency and accountability. Our financial statements are available upon request, and we encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns.

## Acknowledgments

We would like to thank our funders and volunteers who empower us to make a positive impact on the local community and environment.

## Looking Ahead

In 2024, we are excited to continue our work towards a sustainable local community. We are looking to set up a Community Group Library of Things to help local organisations to choose reusable and sustainable methods of hiring equipment for their events and meetings. We are always looking to reach more community groups and volunteers and would welcome any communication from interested individuals and organisations.

Thank you for being a vital part of our journey. Together, we can create local action for global change.
