The building closed in January 2021 in accordance wtth Government reslnctions and our regular groups onty skrted to trickle back after &Is*r. Thank5 to a AAP COVID Recovery and Regenera￿.on Project Grant of £2033. we were able to (rfler returning and new groups 100 hours ol free room hire to assist thern in their gradual relurn w normality The Gfant also allowed us 10 Pufchase PPE, addits'onal cleaning equipment and products, and additional hand sanitising stations. The Trustees weren't able to meet physically uniil May 2021 after Phase 3 relaxalions were announced. The Adrninistrats've Officer continued on flexible furlough until Sepiember 2021. In August 2021 we were very sorry to learn thal one of our valued Trusiees, Mrs Rita Forstei. had passed away after a brave battle with illness. Rita was a much loved and respected member of the Management Team and a volunteer in the cafe, as well as being a pillaT of groundroos youlh football in Ihe local community, and she will be sorely missed. FINANCE The In5litute generated only a modest income from room bookings and the Café de Ferie in 2021. Fortunately Ihe Furlough Scheme and vaTiOUS funher grants designed to b005t our struggling sector, tolalling £21,537, helped keep us afloat. upon maiurity of the CAF Scottis Widows l-year Fixed-Term Deposil Account, we reinve51ed £40,00 for a further year. Onlin banking was sel up wilh Natwest to ailow easier management of the Institute's curren account. Mrs Betty Sheppard requested that she be removed as a signatory on the accoun after many years ot f￿[hful seNice. and the Vice ch￿1, Mr Derek Bradley. was added as signatory in her stead. We had some difficulty communicats'ng with the accountant an securing the relurn of our completed 2020 accounts, exacerbated by COVID restsiciions, b this was finally resolved. USAGE & DEVELOPMENT More groups siarted 10 relum in July and over the year we welcomed back Line Dance, Chat Craft, Yoga, Over-50s Exercise, VIVO Choir, Wl, Linie Treasures, Blind Life, Art Group. NH Weight & Wellbeing, and Oaklea HR (DIDO delayed their return untsl Eastei 2022). Ferryh Town Council, Dean Bank Residenls, Associauon and the local PACT Group held th meetings in the building, and Enter CIC drama group booked for a summer holiday PFoject. August we hosted an exhibition of works of art by Lionel Playford and local schoolchildr inspired by the works of Ihe pitman panter Norman Cornish, commissioned by Ihe Dean Ba Housing Regeneralion Group and Durham County Council. In 2021 Ihe Institute's passeng lift was serviced and we upgraded the building's broadband. After many years running t Café de Ferie, a M￿nSLaY of the Institute, Mrs Joan Weston decided to hang up her apr We will always be Immensely graieful lo Joan for her tsreless efforts in Ihe Café and ongoing fundrasing acts'vits'es for the Instituie. including a table-top Sale in 2021. A coff Scanned with Camscanner morning was held in September ￿ re4)pen the Café and welcome patrons back after a very long closure period, and Mr Chris Cams began offering a weekly lunch, which is proving very popular. Various local groups also chose to have their Christmas meals in the Calé. A £300 grant from Ferryhill Town Council helped to fund a children's Halloween party and cinema night, and we hosted a children's Christmas party in December. Bookings were hit by the COVID Ornicron variant in the latter part of the year, though hopefully (hings will pick up in the coming months. Once again heartfelt thanks go out to all of our volunteers, Trustees and staff for their efforts during another challenging yeat. We hope to see an upturn in bookings by Easter of 2022 and we endeavour to continue performing an important function in the life of the local community.
