Winslow Men in Sheds Chairnian's Report for 2021 IM)en the initial news of Covid was ￿leased. the Committee decided that with the number of vulnerable men in the Shed. we basically had no opts'on but to close straight avRy. We had no idea what the future from Or￿ week to the ￿Xt. So. at the start of 2021 we had been totally IcKk downed since the previous November and this continued until May. During this lime numerous members had been working on projects at home and also sharing ideas wrth each other using the Shed's Mthalwp group. We were. at that moment in time. pinning our hopes on the vaCCi￿S that were being developed and were looking forward to being able to get back to some form of social contsct. We had a successful grant application with the Local Connections Fund (Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and National Lottery) for fvnding to support the shed preparing to re-open. - the implication being that this would be a time when after the lod(down8 have all finished, Men in Sheds will be needed more than ever. Several Shedders have supported Dick's initiative with the Bird Box project, making bird boxes at home for sale to support ￿ community food cupboard. From May, Tim took the initi'ative and organtsed moming arvj aftemoon sessions that could be booked in advanrA with a maximum of 6 people per session, th8 majorty of these sessions W￿re fully booked From July 218t the Shed fully r&opened. with a cautionary approach but with no overall restrictions; Shedders were encouraged to manage their own risks. Visitors started to pop in again. wanting garden tools sharpened and all sorts of things mended. Attendances started to build but members were still quite JO￿focusSed. it will be good to eventually see a return of the social side of the shed. The Shed is not and has never t*en that Con￿rned with increasing its members by advertising. We prefer to have people join because of our efft)rts in the local community, word of mouth or the spread of infomation via the Parish Mag. From October, the Shed was busy with new mernbers and healthy attendan￿5 despite needing to tighten-up on Covid precautions again due to the ernergen￿ of Omicron variant. The WhatsApp group, telephone calls, 'bush telegraph, and emails proved essential to communicate 'sudden-closures' and isolation requirements as some members tested positive. Communication hov￿Ver remains an issu8 - we have approx only half of the membership that routinely use e-mail. The training programme that we proposed to run and Christrnas BBQ were postponed due to the Omicron variant. The MK Sailability group joined the Shed and stsrted refurbishment of 'Pippa' . a new boat to support their work for disabledldisadvantaged people at Caldecotte Lake. We also had a very successful stall at Wnslow Christmas Fair - excellent attendance and we sold-out of Shed-made seasonal items. Proceeds went to fund some community projects we are undertaking and further outreachlspin-off support for the food cupboard.

During the year, despite all the lockdowns limited nurnbers the shed continued to run in profit as will be explained by the Treasurer. We have also purchased some further equipment during the year to enhance what we already have. With regard to the futu￿ of the Wnslow Shed as you can see, we still continue to occupy this Offi￿ block and both warehouse sections 1 & 2 and from various discussions we are reasonably secure until the end of 2022 and beyorKJ. We do not have any date for leaving so we conb'nue to be very lucky with what we have at the moment. To sum up it all up, 2021 was a very difficult year as it presented so many Covid problems. but despite all the trouble. we came through wth I believe a hea￿hY attitude to the whole of the events. Overall, its main application Nvas and still is to bring together men of any age that have a need for company or are depressed due to their circumStan￿s. Our Shed is a place where you can always find someone to talk to and seek advica if required. Dave Saunder8 Chaitman Tuesday 5th April 2022
