No More Durty Water Annual Report for year ending December 2020

After several years of regular fundraising through events and donations from friends of the charity and local businesses, 2020 proved to be a challenging year.
As a result of the pandemic, it proved impossible to hold the music events that have provided the majority of our income to date.
While it was still possible to fund water projects from monies on account, our fulfilment partners were equally affected by the pandemic and the number of projects we were able to support was affected.
Due to lack of activity and lockdowns the Trustees met quarterly online which was adequate to maintain the charity’s running.
In February 2020, our partner Bridge of Hope Children’s Mission was able to formally open a Protected Spring at Musituni in Uganda, which had been funded the previous year. Although we commissioned another spring, it was not possible for BOHCM to initiate construction in 2020.
However, we did have success with Watercause Africa, which has proven to be a resilient fulfilment partner in Uganda despite COVID.
We funded two projects with them at primary schools in rural Uganda, both of which were completed in 2020 on budget despite labour and engineering issues: an underground rainwater harvester tank at Good Foundation Primary School and a traditional rainwater harvester tank at New Hope School.
Watercause Africa, under the management of our local contact Godfrey Zaake, is able to identify areas of need, appropriate buildings (often educational establishments) and co-ordinate building and labour resources in remote areas. Their projects are well documented and delivered to tight budgets.
We have found Watercause to be a reliable and cost-effective working partner and the trustees plan to significantly increase the number of Watercause Africa projects we are involved with in future.
As a result of historically successful fundraising we carried a healthy balance into 2021 and were also able to keep running costs as low as possible.
As we rely on public events for a substantial amount of our donations, we will not be able to operate at full capacity until these are possible, but we intend to fund further water projects from funds on account in 2021 and will budget accordingly.
Many thanks to all our donors and everyone involved with Watercause Africa for the successful outcomes achieved in difficult circumstances in 2020.
