Trustee's Annual Report

Year ended 5 April 2021

The trustee presents his report and the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year ended 5 April 2021.

Chair's report

The past year has been particularly difficult due to the outbreak of COVID-19. This has restricted the activities of the club to a point where there was no football training or matches, in line with the government guidance. Even when the club was operational there were a number of restrictions in place. The club had to bring in specialist help to give guidance for the control of the spread of COVID-19. The annual KFF tournament was also cancelled as a result.

The season itself was a stop start season with the club having to close upon instructions of the authorities. We have isolated incidents of COVID-19 within the club which were managed and controlled in line with Public Health England guidelines.

With the lifting of the restrictions we are entering a level of normality and should see the steady resumption of all activities including the annual KFF tournament.

Objectives and activities

The aim of Guru Nanak Gurdwara Football Club is to promote community participation in healthy recreational activities, for the benefit of the inhabitants of Leicester, Leicestershire and the surrounding counties.

Achievements and performance

The men's team play in the Leicester and Charnwood Sunday Football League and the kids teams play in the local Leicester leagues. Many of our teams went onto win the leagues they were entered into. However this year has been challenging with not as many games being played due to the pandemic, however safety was of highest importance, and the club put in necessary measures to try and keep adults and kids as safe as possible in line with government guidelines. The club also prides itself in having retained the FA Charter Standard Community Club Status as this is the highest level of the FA's kitemark All of our volunteers are DBS checked and cleared. All of our coaches are a minimum of FA Level 1 qualified with many on the FA Level 2 and beyond.

Financial review

The football club makes it imperative, that money generated from activities is put back into the wellbeing of the club, may it be having tournaments throughout the year, or providing one of the best training facilities for Kids and Adults in Leicestershire, and this can be seen by pitch hire and kits and equipment purchases being two of the largest expenses incurred by the club. Overall with all the Covid restrictions the club has not been full operating, and this is visible from the accounts, however we are hoping to resume full training sessions in the coming period.

I report to the trustee on my examination of the financial statements of Guru Nanak Gurdwara Football Club ('the charity') for the year ended 5 April 2021.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the trustee of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the financial statements do not accord with those records; or

  3. the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
