Profit and Loss a Balance carried forward Profit (Loss) current year 79244.64< 20418.15/ 99662.79, AUDITOR'S REPORT From the books and paperwork provided, I have examined the accounts for the year ending 31st December 2025 Friends of St Ruan and St Grade Historic Church Buildings 2026 ## **Annual Trustees Report 2025** At the end of 2024 we were in the process of re-drafting a ‘Project Enquiry Form’ with a view to applying to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) in their smaller grant category (up to £250K). This was submitted in early 2025 and in March we were assigned an Engagement Manager to assist us in the preparation of a full application. The early part of the year was also taken up with trying to establish accurate costings for the restoration work, which was problematic for a number of reasons. First, the cost of building materials continued to rise. Second, the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme, allowing the reclamation of VAT on building projects, was cut and a cap of £25K put on what could be claimed. Finally, the obligation to use Cornish slates for the roof replacement virtually doubled the cost in comparison with the very similar imported slate recommended by our contractor. The slate report prepared by our architect/project manager (Scott’s of Truro) also supported our case, which was subsequently also upheld by the Diocesan Advisory Committee. The urgency of the roof repair weighed in our favour. However, Historic England were concerned about the precedent this might set, and we were persuaded to accept the use of Cornish slate. In July we received fresh tenders for the building works from two contractors, and reached a decision about which one to appoint. However, the tenders indicated that even a maximum award of £250K from NLHF would be insufficient to make up the shortfall in the cost of the full restoration project. As a result, in September we discussed with our Engagement Manager the possibility of applying to the NLHF for a Larger Grant (£250K–£10 million), and began preparing an Expression of Interest form. This was submitted and eventually approved in October. We were invited to submit a full application, and began work on this with a view to submitting for the February 2026 deadline. Our fundraising brought in nearly £22,000 in 2025, including an anonymous donation of £10,000 and interest from our Investment Account of £3,282. Events , including two Jazz Nights, a Silent Art Auction, and a concert by the Cadgwith Singers in St Grade church, totalled £3,803. In addition we received Registered Charity No. 1164632 further grant pledges from the National Churches Trust (NCT), which had already given us generous support in 2024 – first an ‘uplift’ of £5,000 to alleviate the effects of changes to the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme, and later an award of £10,000 resulting from a vote by NCT members.
