## Our Mission Statement

Universal Harvest is dedicated to eradicating human suffering caused by poverty and homelessness. We achieve this by harnessing the dedication of volunteers, support workers, and the generosity of donors. Our goal is to transform empathy into tangible results, ensuring that no one goes hungry in our communities. We do this by providing non-perishable food items because we believe that everyone, irrespective of their circumstances, should have access to life's fundamental necessities.

## Our Values

1. **Practicing what we advise others** – we firmly believe in leading by example. It is very easy to give others advice, but showing others how to practically use the knowledge goes that mile further. Application of knowledge to us is greater than the obtainment of it.

2. **Practicing what we advise others** – we firmly believe in leading by example. It is very easy to give others advice, but showing others how to practically use the knowledge goes that mile further. Application of knowledge to us is greater than the obtainment of it.

3. **Working with hope** – Our aim is never to bash any of our beneficiaries, whom may come from all backgrounds, but to educate them and get their minds on thinking about the root causes of what may have got them into the place we want to help them out of.

4. **Building strong, better networks and communities** – From ensuring we train our volunteers as responsible stewards, to collaborating with communities to reach out those in need.

## Our Activities

Universal Harvest was established with the mission of alleviating poverty for individuals of all backgrounds in the UK. This mission is achieved through:

Providing Support in Times of Crisis: We offer assistance to those unexpectedly facing hardships such as homelessness, illness, old age, and challenging economic circumstances. This support is delivered in the form of non-perishable, nutritious food provisions.

Comprehensive Support: In addition to addressing immediate food needs, we strive to bridge gaps in existing food banks by offering comprehensive advisory services and workshops. These programs empower beneficiaries to combat poverty and regain stability, enhancing their life prospects.

Collaborative Partnerships: We actively cultivate collaborative partnerships with established charities that possess valuable insights into the needs of our beneficiaries. Through these alliances, we mutually support our objectives to combat poverty.

Raising Awareness: Universal Harvest is committed to raising public awareness about poverty in the UK. By shedding light on the issue, we aim to generate greater societal pressure to address social exclusion and initiate meaningful discussions on tackling poverty's root causes.

To realize our mission, we focus our efforts on:

A. Targeting Areas of Greatest Need: Our projects are strategically developed in regions identified by research as having the highest levels of poverty and deprivation.

B. Home Borough Commitment: We maintain a strong presence in our home borough, the London Borough of Newham, where we were initially established. Newham is among the lowest-performing boroughs in London, and we remain dedicated to supporting our local community.

C. Providing Monthly Food Support: Universal Harvest distributes monthly packages of healthy, non-perishable food items to identified individuals in need. After six months, we conduct reviews in collaboration with voluntary groups and charities to ensure our aid aligns with the evolving needs of the community.

D. Future Expansion: While our current resources limit our reach, Universal Harvest has aspirations to expand its operations to other boroughs, such as Tower Hamlets, Barking & Dagenham, and Greenwich, once additional resources are secured. This expansion reflects our commitment to reducing poverty and fostering resilient communities on a broader scale.

## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year:**

## **Activities and achievements**

We continue to execute and support the interest and needs of the wider community. The vision and aims of Universal Harvest remains the same and this financial year we have been able take a step back and embrace the challenging year we have had having experienced a pandemic and being able to make it through the pandemic and still being able to offer our service to the local community. We aim to continue to branch out to other local boroughs and support boroughs who are suffering from poverty but we have made a decision to embrace the difficulties and challenging times we have been through. We continue to look at ways to become selfsustainable and research continues in regards to putting this in place. The team are still in high spirits and believe Universal Harvest will be able to make it through and continue to provide and support those who need us the most.

We have continued working with people and families who have faced unexpected life changing events by supplying them with non-perishable packed food bags and according to the feedback forms that we continuously use. This is really making changes in the lives of the service user especially in times like these.

Inside these bags include:

- Rice

- Pasta/Spaghetti/ Noodles

- Tea Bags

- Vegetable Oil

- Seasoning

- Beans

These non-perishable foods are items that were personally selected as foods that we may eat every day or maybe once a week in one bag. No matter what kind of circumstances you may be facing, you should not be torn away from the source of your energy and health. It may not be seen as a buffet but these foods will definitely and have made a difference in many people’s lives already.

These bags can be used for the homeless, and it can also be used for people who have a roof over their heads but are lacking financially.

Since being established in 2015, Universal Harvest has been working on engaging with local supporters for gifts in kind, promoting our cause in the borough and have established a supporting relationship with many organisations locally.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

## **Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves:**

Universal Harvest Trustees agreed that the Charity should aim to hold sufficient balances on its general and other accounts to allow it to continue operating even if there was a significant reduction in the level of donations and gifts in kind.

This is now our fifth year in operation, which has been extremely busy and difficult due to the pandemic but we are still standing and operating in the best way we can. The Trustees’ aim is a reserve sufficient to cover at least three month’s operating costs in the future.

## **Details of any funds materially in deficit:**

The charity has no funds materially in deficit.

## **DECLARATION**

The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.
