2. To develop the capacity and skills of
socially disadvantaged groups in our
community in such a way that they are
better able to identify, and help meet,
their needs and to participate more fully
in society; in particular but not exclusively
through raising awareness, promoting,
sustaining and increasing individual and
collective
knowledge,
skills
and
expertise,
through
the
practical
development of individual capabilities,
competences, skills and understanding
through formal training, informal talks
and capacity building in voluntary
services,
according
to
Christian
principles and the Street Pastor Urban
Trinity principle of church, police and
local government working together for
the benefit of the community.|

## **Achievements and Performance**

whole.|Para 1.20|Canterbury Street Pastors have been able
to send out teams of 3 people on almost
every Saturday night in Canterbury from
10pm until usually 4pm Sunday morning.
Vulnerable people have been helped: -
To get home safely (sometimes when they
have become intoxicated with alcohol,
etc) Teams have applied first aid and on
occasions called for the help of the
emergency services. We have signposted
individuals to further help and support in
response to homelessness, mental health
challenges and addiction.
Canterbury Street Pastors have been able
to be a calming presence in situations of
tension as well as accompany girls and
women to places of safety when they have
expressed feeling vulnerable. Broken
glass/cans have been removed from the
street to prevent people injuring
themselves. Flip flops have been
distributed to prevent injury to bare feet and
water to those in need.
Teams have engaged with rough sleepers
and helped where possible, providing
water, a snack, insulating space blankets
and waterproof ponchos.
Positive relationships have been continued
up with the police, night staff, pubs, clubs,
etc. Relationships are such that others in
the night-time economy request help from
Street Pastor teams to support individuals
who become vulnerable.
Teams lends a listening ear, and when
asked, will speak about how faith motivates
them to help in these ways.|
