POLICIES AND OBJECTIVES

The objectives of The Active Rhema are:

Each year our trustees review our objectives and activities to ensure they continue to reflect our aims. STRATEGIES FOR ACHIEVING OBJECTIVES

We have adopted the following strategies for achieving the above objectives:

ACTIVITIES FOR ACHIEVING OBJECTIVES

The charity in pursuant of her objectives organised programme of events which were open to all throughout the period. These were on a regular basis - online Christian weekly prayer meetings and bible study, Dayspring Bible Club for kids, and outings for families to meet.

VOLUNTEERS

TAR is grateful for the generous labours of its volunteers who are involved in service provision, charity activities and contributions. It is estimated that over 6500 volunteer hours were provided during the year. If this is conservatively valued at £9.50 an hour, the volunteer effort amounts to over £6,175.

Achievements and performance

REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES

How our activities deliver public benefit.

In addition to our usual monthly meetings, we carried out a wide range of activities in pursuance of our charitable aims. There was an improvement in our income compared to the previous financial year. However, we continued working within the financial constraints we introduced two years ago. We also made a Gift Aid claim for the 2022/2023 financial year. The trustees consider that the activities summarised below provide benefit to those who attend our events and the wider community:

All are welcome to attend our regular meetings. While our online programmes remained strong, we started to introduce in-person meetings for various groups.

We continue strengthening our web seminars with prayer meetings every Friday and weekly bible study. These webinars provide a safe, accessible platform for everyone who wants to grow their faith in Christ to come together and share their experiences and encourage one another. We continue to attract new subscribers.

Our Dayspring Bible Club continues to grow stronger with new subscribers. We thank God for His faithfulness. As a result of the increased number, we continued with two parallel sessions for under 16 and a separate session for over 16s during the year. This enabled us to split the kids based on age to allow for more age-related discussions. The over 16-year-old. With the parent’s permission, the children had the opportunity to discuss the Bible and have fun doing so with their mates on a safe platform that TAR provides. We continue to hold the sessions once a month, and one of the highlights has been the session on Bible quizzes. Our focus has been on the knowledge and application of God’s Word in everyday living whilst also developing leadership and communication skills. DBC members also engaged in the TAR Christmas Project 2022 (sponsored by TAR), where they worked together to reach out to friends and neighbours sharing the love of Christ in giving.

We were again privileged to host our fifth Christmas Love and Share event during the reporting year. The event was again held online building on the success of the previous two years. However, our plan is to move the event back to in-person the next year. It allowed members and other attendees to share and fellowship together during the Christmas season, which further helped us achieve our objectives. Our Virtual TAR East Egg Hunt continues to grow in this reporting year. It brought many TAR members together to learn about Easter and fellowship together during this important Christian celebration.

During the reporting year, we also held our first TAR Family Conference. This was an in-person event, which allowed members across the country to gather in the same place to fellowship and encourage one another. These programmes enables us to further fulfill our objective of advancement of the Christian faith. This was a two-day event, and the plan is to hold this yearly and in different parts of the country to further encourage better engagement from members.

Working with local churches - Apart from our work with students, we continue to work with local churches in Canterbury. Especially where we recognise that they have a distinctive programme to help children and young adults get to know God better and be established in the Christian faith. During this reporting year, we continue to make a targeted contribution toward the work being done in the Kids Church at Barton Church, the youth at Calvary Victory Church and the discipleship programme at Canterbury Vineyard.

Porchlight - A city-wide charity providing intervention and support for the homeless. We initially started with a Christmas donation in December 2015. We later decided to make it regular to continue to support their amazing work with the vulnerable homeless and rough sleepers in Canterbury.

Canterbury Food Bank - Furthermore, in our work to prevent or relieve poverty, the trustees recognise the work of Canterbury Food Bank, especially considering the surge in the use of their services because of the cost-of-

living crisis and the great work that the team at Canterbury does to support the vulnerable people in the city. Hence, we continue to make regular financial donations toward the amazing work that they do to support the local people.

Financial report

RESERVES POLICY

The trustees have established a policy whereby the unrestricted funds not committed or invested in tangible fixed assets ('the free reserves') held by TAR should be three quarters of the voluntary income.

INVESTMENT POLICY

The trustees have decided that at present, funds should be retained in the bank. Any change in such banking arrangements should be agreed upon by the board. As far as possible, funds will be retained in interestbearing accounts.

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES' RESPONSIBILITIES

The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

The law applicable to charities in England & Wales requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each budget year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of TAR and of the incoming resources and application of resources of TAR for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 1993.
