Str andm Kent Wildlife Rescue Service is a small charity registered wtth the Charity Commission in December 2015 as a Foundation Charilable Incorporated Organisation, registered number 1164595. The charity has continued to grow and is now entering its tenth year as a registered charity. The princlple office is 106 Victoria Street. Sheemess, Kent, ME12 1 YF. The Trustee5 who served the charity during the period were: Lorraine March Sara O'Bray Jan Hooper Julia (Twiggy) HaVS Ob"ectlves and Actlvltlos The objective of the charity is for the benefil of the public to relieve the suffering of wild animals in Kent in need of care and attention and. in particular, to provide and maintain facilities for the rescue, reception, care and treatment of such animals wth the ultimate aim of releasing back lo the Wld. We are wholly committed to preparing our incoming wildlife to belng put back into the wild ASAP. Care and treatment of injured wldlife will theT) include those animals found by the general public and which have either been brought to the centre directly or reported and rescuedl collected by the trustees and volunteers. Assistance is albyays provided through general medical aid and care ere appropriate or by referral to a vet. Our collectors, drive to collect and reve injured wldlrfe. are a wtal resource whom rely on en the call for a )Mldlife rescue is issued to them. They ¢ollect when the general public caller cannot deliver the wildlrfe diredly to us. thIch sometimes involves half a day of their time. Pago 1

The area from bthich animals are rescued has also increased due to the closure of many other small rescue centresl organisations. The charity continues to follow guidance around keeping the birds well (followng the Avian Flu) and continues to Vrk closely with the Swan Sanctuary and their vet for treatment and surgery, particulady for our sea birds. Any errdnt North American migpnts blown to our shores are treated then despatched to a specialised centre in Dorset. KWRS continues to offer a serwce to the fire and rescue service and police covering from 7pm to 7am. The RSPCA cover during the day. Our partnership with Fox Angels is working well and continues through mutual appreciation. Calls this year include a deer (%w)rking with Chris and Sylvia Collinson - deer experts). All callouts have been successful interagency K)rking. The charity now has numerous collection / rescue officers and these volunteers represent the charity en dealing with the general public. The charity continually try to increase thes8 numbers as often volunteers are unavailable due to other commitments and therefore a larger number of volunteers Vuld create greater capacity for calls coming In to the centre. Thls aspect of our rescue retrieval work is proving increasingly difficult to maintain. with our reliance on very few collectors and subsequently increasing fuel costs. Other work l advocacy for wildlife has been offered by our hedgehog Coryordinator lan Gray who has completed numerous talks al)out hedgehogs and wildlife to various schools and community groups. The general public often become upset and sometimes abusive, len we have to say our facilities are full and we cannot accept new patients at that time. The closure of more and more rescue centres means the pressure on us is often great. but the caller has to understand our accomodation space is heavily restricted, even though y are their only port of call. Once the centre's holding pens are full. we post a message explaining our reasons as. obviously. we cannot accept more wildlife for treatment until space becomes available. Alternative rescue centres are under the same pressures. The largest expense of the Charity ¢ontinues to be veterinary bllls. Our principal vet continues to be Manor Vets in Chalham. For our orthopaedic patients we are using Brier House vets in 8roadstairs. We use Mead vets in Dartford as our hospilal for emergency situations. Pay2

The charity has a large proportion of rescues in the Thanet area which also Involves significant mileage and therefore cost. The charity is grateful for having managed to secure a fuel donation for up to 500/0 of our fuel costs covered by SJL logistics. Agaln this year. because of increasing wildlrfe being treated and our waste cannot be collected by the Council. SJL Haulage also cover some of our waste management costs on skip hire. Our fundraising teams have been superb in matching our increasing expenditure by running 20 events around Kent and have also continued to include sUpearketS collections and carol singing donations. The charity is still fundraising by auctioning donated goods and again this is proving to be very profitsble due to the dedicatlon of the volunteers organising this. Our largest volume of funding is from the general public, via Paypal and Paypal Giving. which strongly suggests our regular Facebook entries on the welfare of incoming wildlife is striking a positive feeling, thus releasing extra donations. We thank those who tirelessly continue to input all these wildlife recovery adventures onto the social media platforms for us. We are experiencing increasing donatlons from corporations. whose employees are choosing us as their sponsored organisation for a period. Gift Aid (GAI is becomlng an important extra for our fund ralsers, as is the use of checkout donations from shoppers in supemiarkets. We have some dedicated members who enter marathons etc. using their GoFundMe packages with attached GA form, and these are invaluable. We continue to be grateful to the prison serrfice on Ihe Isle of Sheppey, who continue to provide us with homes for hedgehogs, made by their inmates. The lifeblood of our centre are the volunteers. who tirelessly clean out the soiled night bedding in the momlng, add fresh bedding and offer fresh water and food, which often involves numerous shopping trips to the more exotic local food emporiums. Some of these same volunleers dedicate themselves to raising much needed funds to help offset the rising veterinary costs associated with the care vrfe offer. Interestingly. we now often receive calls from nonnal vets, who have taken in injured wildlife and are asking for guidance in their care before transferring them to us, after assessments and X-rays etc. Page 3

Increase numbers of centre volunteers. Focus on fundraising which is ongoing and the auctions will be a fundraising priority for us, as well as being used to increase public awareness of the charity and its vrk. Focus on further developing a computer database. Work on the purpose-built animal hospital. There are now slgnrficant funds towards this, however, more is needed. There has been a difficulty securing reputable builders for quotes to do the work. Grow income through grants and community furKling- specifically the charity would like to explore charitable donations through councillors over the whole of Kent as currently we only approach Swale. The base is srtuated in Swale however we cover the whole of Kent. Further develop social media and online fundraising. Ensure the continuation of a stable trustee membership. Work on soft release pens for all wildlrfe in the process of releasing wildlife. There is a need to increase opportunity viith the general public to work with us on the set up and location of the pens (which will be supplied by KWRS). Page 4

This resulted in £57,311 of unreslricled reserves (2024: £32.579) that were carried foThvard at the end of the year. The trustees are satisfied that the charity is on a sound footing and 111 be able to continue operating for the foreseeable future. The maln concems of the Trustee's are that other organisalions have b8en working on shorter hours or have closed completely which has increased our intske significantty. Ajso, the increas8d risk of avian flu has meant other ¢entres have stopp8d taking rescued birds and Ihe centr8 1$ Gonstanuy full. The twstees have compli8d V•ith their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by The Charity Commission in exercising their power and duties.
