Kent Wildlrfe Rescue Service is a small chafTty registered ￿ the Charity
Commission in December 2015 as 8 Foundation Charitable In¢orpordted
Organisation, registered number 1164595. The charity has continued to
grow and is now entering its tenth year as a registered charity.

The objective of the charty is for the benefft of the publ￿ to reli8ve the suffering of Nmld
animals in Kent in need of ￿re and attention and, in particular. to provide and maintain
facilities for the rescue. receptlon, care and treatrnent of such animals vrith the ultimate aim of
releasing back to the wld.
C8re and treatment wll indude those animals found by the general public and bthich have
either been brought to the centre directly or reported and rescuedl collected by the trustees
and volunteers. Assistance Vrfill be provided through general medical aid and care ¥there
appropriate or by referral to a veL
The service continues to have been very busy. The range of animals received continues to be
wide and varied. The variety has increased. The a￿8 from bthich animals are rescued has
also increased due to the closure of many other small rescue centresl organis81ions. The
charity continues to follow guidan￿ around keeping the birds ￿11 {following the Avian Flu)
and continues to vnrk closely with the Swan Sanctuary and their vel for I￿atMent and
surgery, particularfy for our sea birds. Any errant North American migrants bk)vm to our
shores are treated then despatched to a specialised centre in OorseL

KWRS continues to offer a service to the fire rescue service and police cov6ring from
7pm to 7am. The RSPCA cover during the day. This is our fifth year of offering support. The
charity receives a donation of £1500 yeaty for this service. Our partnership Imth Fox Angels is
working well and continues through mutual app￿cIall0n.
The charity now has 21 collection I rescue officers. These volunteers represenl Ihe charrty in
dealing wth the general public. The charity conts'nually try to increase these numbers as often
volunteers a￿ unavailable due to other commitments and the￿fore a larger number of
volunteers would create greater capacity for calls Coming in lo th8 centre. Other workj
advocacy for wldlife has been offered by our hedgehog co-ordinator lan Gray who has
completed numerous talks atKJut hedgehogs wildlif8 to various schools and community
groups.
The centre is also under extreme pressure now from members of the public becoming
aggressively vocal in not being able to have their injured wildlrfe colthted or being attended
lo. Once the ￿ntre,$ holding pens are full, we post a message explaining our reasons as,
obviously. we cannot accept more bmldlrfe for treatment until space becomes available.
Alternative rescu8 centres are under the same pressures.
Th8 largest expense of the Charity continues to be veterinary bills. Our principal vot continues
to be Manor Vets in Chatham. For our orthopaedic patients are using BrTrer House vets in
Broadstairs. We use Meads vets in Dartford as our hospital for emergency srtuations.
The rising cost of fuel has abKdyB been problematic due to the large area covered. The
charity has a large proFK)rtion of rescues in the Thanet area which also involves signfficant
mileage and therefo￿ cost. The charity is grateful for having managed to secuffj a fvel
donation for up to 50°A of our fuel costs covered by SJL kng1st￿s. Again this year, because of
increasing wildlrfe being treated and our vraste cannot be collected by the Council. SJL
Haulage also cover some of our ￿aSte management costs on skip hire.
Our fundraising teams have been superb in malching our increasing expendilure by running
30 events around Kent and have also continued to include supemiarkets collections and carol
singing donations. The charity 1$ Still fundraising by auctioning donated goods and again this
18 proving to be very profitable due to the dedication of the volunteers organising this.

Our largest volume of funding is from the general public. wa Paypal and Paypal Giving, which
strongly suggests our regular Facebook entries on the welfare of incoming wildlife is striking a
positive feeling, thus releasing extra donations. We thank thoe who tirelessly continue to input all
these wtldlife re￿Very adventures onto the social media platforms for us.
Sadly, our 'resident' fox, Peter, passed avray and his presence will be missed, not only by centre
staff, bul by those who used to see him at various fundraising events..
In the coming year . the Charity's commrttee members would like to -
Increase volunteer rescuers across the county.
Increase numbers of centre volunteers.
Focus on fundraising which is ongoing and the auctions wll be a
fundraising priority for as V￿11 as being used to increase public
awrareness of the charity and its vA)rk.
Focus on further developing a computer database.
Work on the purpose-built animal hospital. There are now
significant funds towards this. however. more is needed. There
has been a difficulty securing reputable builders for quotes to do
the work.
Grow income through grants and community funding- specifically
the charity ￿lUId like to explore Charitable donations through
councillors over the whole of Kent as currently we only approach
Swale. The base is situated in Swale however we cover the ￿ole
of Kent.
Further develop social media and online fundraising.
Ensure the continuation of a stable trustee membership.
Work on soft release pens for all wldlife in the process of releasing
wildlife. There is a need to increase opportunity with the general
public to V￿rk with us on the set up and location of the pens (￿Ich
viill be supplied by KWRS).

For the year ended 31st March 2024, income through donattons byas £54,787 {2023.' £53.839)

satisfied that the charfty is on a sound fcoting and ￿1[ b8 able to Continue operating for the
foreseeable future.

on shorter hours or have closed completey thich has increased our inlake
significantly. Also. the increased Tisk of avian flu has meant other centres have
stopped taking rescued birds and the centre is Constsnlly full.
