st I" April 2024 to 31 March 2025 Alm and Bellef HYC aims to provide a Youth Club staffed by professional Youth Workers and supported bv Volunteers, at the Community Use Building for two evenings a week during term time. One evening is for the academic year groups 7 & 8 and another evening for older children {year 9+1. These sessions regularly attract 25 to 40 young people on a regular basis and the membership list indicates a wider engagement too. This is done so firmly in the belief that the young people of Honiton deserve nothing less than the quality of service that was provided before, with two professional youth workers to plan, lead and run the sesslons. HYC recognizes that as Honiton itself develops and grows its youth are a valuable asset who can make a key contribution to a vibrant, diverse and sustainable community. To that end, HYC aims to help support those young people in their journey to happy and rewarding adulthood. Background In 2014, the previously successful Youth Club was c105ed. It was a direct consequence of the restructuring and funding cuts within Devon County Council at the time, effectively reducin8 the Devon Youth provision. A replacement professional and sustainabSe Youth Club was needed to continue the popular sessions that used to run. This is where the positive power of a communtty working together comes in. A group of Honiton residents formed in response to the closure, with the express purpose of re- establishing and managing Honiton Youth Club as an important community asset. A management committee was formed dedicated to getting it back up and running. With support from various Council agencies and In partnership with Honiton Community College and Combe Estate HYC reopened its doors in September 2015 and is now as popular as ever. Combe Estate The Marker family of Combe Estate remain key supporters of HYC. both Karissa and Angela are HYC Trustees. Combe Estate's continued contribution, for over nine years has been crucial in ensuring that HYC not only opened again but was also able to employ tow professional Youth Worker5. Richard Marker the HYC patron continues to believe that: he younG people of Honiton deserve to hove a safe environment where they ct7n enjoy o variety of attivities that ore acce55ible ondfun. These HYC evenings help to develop their skills ond knowledge, posltive attitudes ond behovior oll whilst building their self-esteem at on importont time in their lives."
News of Note Professional Youth Workers HYC continues to flourish under the leadership of Youth Workers Louie Lane and Ottavia Mdden, Sophia Edi5 continues to support on Thursday evenings. During the summer school holidays Louie and Octavia have also led sessions playing games such as rounders In the local park which prove to be very popular. Thank you This is an opportunity to reiterate our enormous thanks to all the many people of Honiton who offer us their tremendous sUPPOrt. This includes our Youth Workers, whose strong commitment to HYC helps ensure that the club benefits all of our young members. It also extends to the Committee who are entirely made up of unpaid volunteers, and last but not least the hyc members wo make it all worthwhile. Honiton Youth Club continues to believe in the transformative power of positive and constructive collaboration and co-operation. Its continued existence, impact and its influence forthe better are testament to that.
