Seplember 2023.
The purposgs of the charlty ar¢
To advance, improve, develop and maintain public education in and appteeialion of the art and science of a
capella singing in all aspects ty any means the Trustees see fil, including the presentation of public concerts.
To further such Charitable purpose or purposes as the Trustees in their absolute discretion shall think fit bul in
particular through the making of grants and donations.
Activltles and revlew ol the perlod
D8scriptlon of main activities
The chorus works hard lo improve in all aspects ol a capella singing. We receive coaching from some of the
best in the art of barbershop singing, sharing with us their knowtedge and experience. We enter compelilions
to give a focus for our improvement work which In turn means that we are in a better position to present the
be$1 of a capella singing lo the public through our concerts.
In November 2022 we pul on a Concert for the benefil of Windlehursl Methodist Church. H￿h Lane. Al
proceeds were for Ihe benefit of the Church, a registered Charity. In December 2022 we put on a Christmas
concert al Marple Melhodisl Church, which was very well attended. In January 2023 we ran a publi¢ 6-week
singing course 'Heartbeal AcademV- for anyone interested learning our craft. This was extremely well
allended and the participants learned a song al the same time as chorus members. In February 2023, we pul
on a show al Romiley Forum ané the Acaéemy participants joined us on stage to sing Iheir, song. Most of the
participants have since become full members of the Chorus.
In April 2023, chorus look part in Ihe International Division al the annual eonvenlion held by the Spanish
Association of Barbershop Singers and won the gold medal. Buoyed up by that wn, chorus entered of the
choral classes al the International Eisteddfod held annualty in Llangollen. We won second place in each Class,
wlh many compliments from the judges and audience about the joy and enthusiasm we broughl lo Ihe stage.
One judge said Ihal every choir crossing the stage that day could learn somelhing from us.
Duiing this year we have been able lo pul our sWe of a capella Singing in front of a wide range of audiences
on several occasions.

The charills governing document is a conslilulion first adopted on 10 April 2014. The Current version was
adopted on 25 January 2024.

Public beneflt
Membership is open lo all members of the public.
A membership fee is Charged on a monthly basis. There are redU￿d rales for associate members and for
those members who are disadvantsged.
Honorary ¢)fficers
At the Annual general meets.ng of the charity the members shall elect from amongst themselves a President. a
Vice-President. a Secretary, a Tfeasurer and a Membership Se¢relary who shall hold office from the
conclusion of Ihal meeting.

The commrtlee shall be no fewer than 3 and no more than 10 members.
Trustees benefit
The Trustees do not claim expenses. The TNslees pay monthly 5ubscriplions lo the chorus and out of this
payments are made for regislralion for competitions, membership of the governing body and vocal coaching
costs.
Rlsk management
The chorus has a child protection policy as it is open lo indwiduals of all ages Including minors. Children often
attend events held in the local community. The ¢horus also has a vulnerable adults policy.
Flnancial risks pollcy
The chorus does not currently have a finan¢ial risks policy. The Trustees are awaTe that a policy needs lo b
implemented and are in the process of developing one.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Ihe abovg
charity ('the Trust.) for the year ended 30 September 2023.
Rèsponsibilities and As the charity trustees of the Trusl, you are responsible for the preparation

2011 ('the Ad").
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out
under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I
have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission

come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me

Charities- Slalement of Recommended Practice applicable lo charrties preparing their aecounls in
accordance with the Financial Reporting S18ndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland
{FRS102) (effective 1 January 2022)- {Charilies SORP (FRS1021) and the Financial Reporting
Standard applicable in the UK and Republi¢ of Ireland {FRS102)-

The charity is an unincorporated enlty registered in November 2015.
Going concem
The tnjstees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charitys ability to continue
as a going ¢on¢ern.
Fund 8¢counling
Unrestrlcted funds are available to spend on activities that further any of the purposes of the Charity.
Desi9naled funds are unrestricted funds of the charity which the trustees have decided at their
discretion to set aslde for a Specif￿ purpose.
Reslri¢ted funds are funds of the charity restricted for specrfic purposes. They are held on trust
until expended.

Income and expendilure recognil
Inry)me is recognised when Ihe charity receNes funds.

3. Donatlons
Donalions comprise of members donations (being conlribulions in excess of subscriptions
payable). Ihird paty donalions and gift aid refunds received from HM Revenue a Customs.
4. Fundralsing events
Greater effort has been put into fundraising this year. A dedicated Fundraising Team has been
eslablished. They meet regularly to or9anise events and lo come up with Innovative ways lo
increase chorus fund5.
The lottery was continued through the year on the same terms as 2022.
5. Staff ¢o$ts and trust￿ remunarat5on
The ¢harlty does nol employ any staff.
No Iruslees, or ¢onne¢ted parties, received remuneralion during the perlod.

7. Funds {contlnugdl
RestrKted funds
The purpose of the Kind Heart Fund is to provide financial assistance lo members who are having
difficulty in financing specffjic ¢horus activities. The fund is held in a separate bank account and
cannot be used for any other purpose.
Detsils of the Lotto fund are shown in note 4 above.
The National Lottery grdnl was awarded as a contribution towards new costumes.
Last year the Trustees decided that funds previously recognised as '¢Jesignaled' should be
released lo"unreslricled' These funds represented money from fundraising and monetary
competition prizes which, at one b'me, were designated to meet chorus expenses to be incvrred in
respect of International competition. However, since COVID prevented that competition from being
held, the funds are n¢)w available for Ihe general purposes of the chorus.

No trustees, or connected parties. had any personal interest In any contract or transaction entered
into by the charty during the period.
