Adroddiad Flynyddol yr Ymddiriedolwyr 2021/ Annual Report of Trustees 2021
The Tabernacl Chapel Morriston Trust was registered in November 2015. The Trust was established to secure the future of the chapel Building. The building is a Grade 1 Listed Building with CADW. The Trust is currently supported by the Tabernacle Morriston Congregation Trust. A new Trust has been registered with the Charity Commission - Tabernacle Morriston Community Heritage Trust ( 1197032)- and this Trust will take over the responsibilities of the Tabernacl Chapel Morriston Trust once all legal formalities are completed.
The new architect, Amanda Needham is proceeding with the preparatory work for the adaptations to the Vestry in accordance with RIBA schedules and specialist surveyors have carried our necessary surveys. A planning application will follow. Essential work to bring the chapel heating system up to legal requirements has been subjected to Planning delays. The works will not now begin until the summer of 2022. We are working towards meeting the requirements of the last Quinquennial inspection.
Health and Safety issues with the chandelier lighting system have been resolved and, with Grant assistance, contractors have installed electrically operated winches which will be maintained and operated under a maintenance contract.
The support of the City and County of Swansea, grant awarding agencies, including CADW and the Welsh Government is greatly valued and we continue to benefit from the work of Ms Jacquy
Box , in preparing and submitting Grant applications and other administrative tasks that she undertakes on our behalf.
- The film financed by a CADW grant was completed and shown to local audiences in November. It is available for viewing on You Tube under the title “ Tua’r Goleuni”/ “ Towards the Light”.
Income from the Vestry has increased and good use by the community is being made of the space. The National Churches Trust nominated Tabernacl for the Marsh Award for developing contact with the community. Two concerts provided some income from the chapel building. The costs and work related to the maintenance of the chapel building are far beyond the physical and financial capabilities of the ageing and diminishing congregation.
- The magnificent organ is 100 years old next year and the chapel building will also be 150 years old in 2022 Both require and receive regular care and maintenance. The present Trustees are mindful of their responsibility and doing all they can to ensure that generations to come will be able to see, use and appreciate Tabernacl, the “ Cathedral of Welsh Nonconformity.”
