The Tabernacle Chapel Morriston Trust was registered in November 2015. The trust was established to secure the future of the Chapel building. This building is a Grade 1 Listed Building with CADW. Until such time as new trustees are appointed, or other arrangements may be made, the Tabernacle Morriston Trust will be supported by the Tabernacle Morriston Congregation Trust. The meeting of potential trustees could not be held as planned in March 2020 because of the pandemic. The meeting did take place in November and twelve of those present agreed to act as trustees. A formal application to establish the new trust, to be known as Tabernacle Morriston Community Heritage Trust, and for it to operate as a C I O, will be made to the Charity Commissioners. The present trustees agreed to the completion of essential works in relation to the 2019 Quinquennial at an estimated cost of £44,154. This work is in the staircase area below the tower. The new architect, Amanda Needham, will proceed to plan for the vestry adaptations at a cost of £17,450 to RIBA Stage 2. The flue for the boiler that heats the main chapel building requires upgrading to meet legal requirements. Listed Building consent will be needed and the architect will work with a specialist company to design an appropriate system and gain LBC. The estimated cost is £ 12,500. A broadband installation is regarded as essential for congregation and building use needs and £5,000 has been allowed for this. The Architect is actively investigating the provision of a lift to provide access for the disabled to the main chapel building. The Development Officer, Ms Jacqui Box secured a grant of £64,200 from the Cultural Recovery Fund towards the costs. However, the boiler flue, additional dry rot treatment and essential work on the organ were not known when the application was made and will need financing. CADW provided a grant of £10,000 to meet the cost of a film on the story of Tabernacle in its community. Part of the grant will be to provide supervised skills training for the less able. Income from activities in the vestry was limited and there was no income at all from the use of the chapel. This, of course a direct result of the pandemic. The congregation paid the annual rental but no services, or any other activities, were held in the chapel or the vestry after mid March. Bethania members contributed £500 towards rental costs. Finance from the Heritage Lottery Fund that met the cost of the employment of Ms Jacqui Box as Development Officer ended in August 2020. However, Ms Box continues to work in the External Funding Section of Swansea City Council and we are able to benefit from her actions in this post. We are grateful to Jacqui for all her efforts on behalf of Tabernacle whilst acting as our Development Officer and appreciate her continued support. Other Local Authority staff, particularly Mr Paul Relf, along with the interest of our local representatives on the City and County of Swansea is greatly appreciated by the members of Tabernacle Chapel. Chapel Deacon Mr Huw Tregelles Williams continues to work tirelessly to co ordinate the work of the various agencies and individuals involved. Sadly, increasing age and ill health has made the care of the chapel grounds and looking after the day to day requirements of the building a task that is getting beyond the ability of the maintenance team. This is a cause of concern and will need to be addressed. As we enter 2021 the effects of the Covid 19 epidemic continue to affect all activities in our communities. It is our hope however that 2021 will see some further progress in the efforts to secure the future of Tabernacle. ## INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material aspect 1. Accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act: or 2. The accounts do not accord with those records: or 3. The accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of the accounts set out in the Charities ( Accounts and Reports ) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
