Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 December 2024
Everton Park is one of the great parks of Liverpool, it is also the youngest park. It was completed in the 1980s and has many unique features and an incredible history. Every Liverpudlian knows that it has the best view over the city; a view that extends over the two Cathedrals, the city centre, the Mersey River, the Wirral and as far as Snowdonia on a clear day. Liverpudlians are renowned for dragging their out-of-town friends up to the view and astounding them with the sights.
In addition to the views, Everton Park has a ton of other features. It was built on a hill - no surprise as it has a view and is regularly used by runners and others keen on exercise. There is a skate park, a bike run, a playground, wildflowers, and for those interested, a Nature Garden and an allotment (the Community Garden).
But most of all it is a park - a place to relax, a green environment to escape from the bustle and stresses of daily life and enjoy walking, talking, and playing.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The Objects of the CIO are:
To provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving the conditions of life for those living in Everton Park and surrounding neighbourhood.
To promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of Everton Park.
Public benefit
In considering the Objects and activities covered by this report, the Trustees have also considered the Charity Commission guidance on Public Benefit to ensure that Friends of Everton Park is meeting these important requirements and obligations.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
2024 has been a mixed year for the Friends of Everton Park. The park itself continues to thrive as one of Liverpool's most beautiful green spaces - a place for exercise, relaxation, and community life - but the Friends group has struggled with low committee attendance, limited engagement, and loss of momentum.
We end the year determined to rebuild energy and purpose so that the group once again reflects the community's enthusiasm for this wonderful park.
The Park in 2024
Everton Park remains a much-loved local asset - a green lung with panoramic views, wildflower meadows, and woodland walks. The Nature Garden has continued to offer a peaceful space for wildlife and learning, thanks to small groups of volunteers who have mai ntained beds and paths.
The Mini Roads cycle path has been one of the year's great successes. Children have enjoyed learning to ride safely on its miniature road layout, and local organisations such as Peloton Liverpool have run fun, family-friendly cycling sessions.
Nearby, the new garden on the old fountain site has transformed a neglected area into an attractive, climate-friendly feature, using recycled materials and pollinator-friendly planting. Together, these projects have made the park even more welcoming and vibrant.
Board and Governance
This year has been difficult for the Friends committee.
Attendance at meetings was often poor, and some members had not read previous minutes, leading to repeated discussions and slow progress. The website has also become defunct, limiting communication and recruitment.
As a result, the committee has sometimes fallen short of what a Friends group should be - an active, outward-looking advocate for the park. However, those who remained engaged worked hard to maintain links with Liverpool City Council and the Landscape group, and these partnerships continue positively.
Looking Ahead
The outlook for Everton Park is bright. Liverpool City Council plans to install new children's play equipment within the next two years, and the ongoing landscape improvements are already enhancing the park.
The Friends group now needs renewal - new members, better communication, and a clearer sense of purpose. Reviving the website, restarting regular volunteer sessions, and strengthening links with schools and community groups will be key to restoring energy and relevance.
Conclusion
Everton Park remains a jewel of North Liverpool - a place to walk, cycle, meet friends, and connect with nature. The Friends group has faced challenges this year but retains strong foundations and community goodwill. With renewed focus and fresh involvement, 2025 can be a year of recovery and growth.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The organisation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) registered with the Charity Commission in November 2015 under charity number 1164519 and is governed by a constitution dated 20 October 2015.
Trustee Recruitment and AGM
This year's AGM was notable for the successful recruitment of a new trustee, strengthening our leadership team. While there were moments of negativity during the meeting, the team is committed to creating a more positive atmosphere next year. The AGM also provided an opportunity to reflect on past successes and set the agenda for the year ahead, focusing on enhancing our community engagement.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Taxation
The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

2. TRUSTEES' REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
There were no trustees' remuneration or other benefits for the year ended 31 December 2024 nor for the year ended 31 December 2023.
