Report of the Trustees
The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2021. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The Objects of the CIO are:
To provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving the conditions of life for those living in Everton Park and surrounding neighbourhood.
To promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of Everton Park.
Public benefit
In considering the Objects and activities covered by this report, the Trustees have also considered the Charity Commission guidance on Public Benefit to ensure that Friends of Everton Park is meeting these important requirements and obligations.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
When we signed off our report for the year ending 2020 with adjectives describing our pandemic experience hitherto as "wretched" and "most awful and exacting" we had no dream that the ensuing 12 months would be as bad. But it has been exactly that. Of course we have learned to live with it; the shock has largely gone and we have been in far less danger because much of 2021 has been preoccupied with vaccination programmes and we have experienced a gradual release of tension, exclusion and isolation.
Trustees
As the year began there were shocking numbers of infections and we of course could do nothing else than comply with lockdown rules and wait patiently for the storm to pass. We met remotely as Trustees towards the end of February and made tentative plans for the year ahead. It was the first of five Trustees meetings over the course of the year and we are pleased to retain our existing team. We have improved our finances over the course of the year and thank Simon Abram and Andy Williams in particular for their work in achieving that. We have also recruited Danielle Azanuwha to serve with us. Danielle lives locally and was already very involved in the community life of the area. We are delighted to have her on board and by way of demonstrating her pleasure at joining us, in October Danielle was successful in securing an Awards for All lottery grant for the events programme planned for 2022. Whilst thwarted from running a full events programme in 2021, we remained busy in several different areas of work.
Everton Library
Ken Rogers supported Polly Moseley and a team of activists in making good progress on the saving and restoration of Everton library. The highlight of this was a fantastic day in October which showcased the past and the potential of the iconic building. We were greatly encouraged when the Council committed to a programme of emergency works which will ensure the building has at least the chance to be saved and allow further feasibility and funding proposals to be brought forward.
Social Media
We also transformed our social media activity from the middle part of the year and now have a good Facebook profile as well as a decent presence on Twitter and Instagram. Thanks to Danny, Anne- Marie and Danielle for this work. Having lost the website in the early part of the lockdown, we are also now underway with developing a new website.
Events
Our events programme was severely curtailed and late getting started but we produced a calendar of events newsletter in July and then gathered for the Family Fun Run, the Gardens Open evening, the Walk for Life around the park and the superb One World - One Love event in mid-October. This last event was held in close partnership with Shrewsbury House and the North Liverpool Academy and was a wonderful showcase of poetry, dance, fun and international harmony driven by the enthusiasm of our young people. We welcomed two families who had recently escaped from the traumas of Afghanistan which was a moving and unifying experience.
Landscape Group
In terms of moving forward on the park itself, we established a new working group that we christened the Landscape group. The remit was to look at what was happening on the ground in the park. We needed a focus on the land and our various plans and activities on it. Everton Park is complex and disconnected and presents some challenges for a single comprehensive plan. However we do need to develop a plan. The recent Fields in Trust and Council scheme to protect all the city's parks in perpetuity had in part stimulated the initiative. To date we have drafted an action plan and meet regularly with the head of the Parks.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Nature Garden
In early summer it transpired that an organisation named Food for Thought had made some moves to establish a base in the park's Nature garden. Initially we had not been consulted on the proposals but we made good relationships with Jimmy Holland from Food for Thought and learned about their proposals. These are basically to make use of the gardens as a centre for children to explore the outdoors and develop their interest and skills under the John Muir award scheme. In August Maire Bannon was appointed as the coordinator of the project and we have worked closely and cheerfully with her since that time. We look forward to the ongoing use and development of the Nature garden and working in partnership. Food for Thought, who provide catering in about 70 Liverpool schools, also assisted with excellent catering at our Walk for Life event for which we were grateful.
Everton Community Garden
Whilst working on the community gardens posed some difficulties during the lockdown periods, we have kept the place flourishing with its usual array of fabulous crops. It has provided a life line for several and it has also more than doubled in people attending so that it regularly sees numbers of between 15 and 20. In some measure this has been down to people from Hong Kong who have recently settled in Liverpool and have found Everton Park and the gardens on their way to that. They have been a wonderful addition to our tribe of learning gardeners and we are so pleased that the Friends have been able to hold out the hand of welcome and friendship to all of them.
It's been a bit tough again but we live to tell the tale and we look forward with optimism and thanks as we set our sights on a bright future.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing document
The organisation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) registered with the Charity Commission in November 2015 under charity number 1164519 and is governed by a constitution dated 20 October 2015.
Recruitment and appointment of new trustees
Trustees are appointed by the membership at the Annual General Meeting, and meet at least bimonthly to progress and conclude all project and governance business. No staff are employed - Trustees, members, and a small team of freelancers work together to ensure that all projects are delivered as planned.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Taxation
The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.
2. TRUSTEES' REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
There were no trustees' remuneration or other benefits for the year ended 31 December 2021 nor for the year ended 31 December 2020.

There were no trustees' expenses paid for the year ended 31 December 2021 nor for the year ended 31 December 2020.
