wards across the region, and provide
bereavement breaks for families after the
death of a child. Team Evie funds medical
equipment and provide training that saves
children’s lives, make time in hospital
easier for sick children and reduce anxiety
for families and are there for bereaved

planning the activities of the CIO. Without
vital equipment, e.g. SATs and heart rate
monitors, families cannot care for their sick
children at home and they would need to
remain in hospital. Through the CIO’s
purchases families are able to be together
at home, where they should be. The
equipment bought will be used by a
succession of families over time in the
West Cumbria area. Having a child in
intensive care can mean that families can't
bond with their child as they would
normally. Research has shown that 69% of
parents feel closer to their baby through
reading and 86% of parents said they
enjoyed it. Parents described how reading| helped them to gain an increased sense of control, intimacy and normality. Staff in PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) suggested the iPads. They felt they would aid cognitive development, provide educational resources and could be used by siblings of sick children and parents as a reprieve from the intense environment. There is a lack of sensory equipment and physiotherapy aids in the PICU. Long term patients in intensive care need stimulation to aid continued cognitive development while incapacitated. The children also require much support to continue their physical development and without the purchase of more equipment children miss out. The bereavement support will provide comfort, information and help for families in their greatest time of need, following the loss of their child. Raising awareness of TOFs is vital in supporting families when their child is diagnosed with this condition. ## **Achievements and Performance** ||SORP reference|| |---|---|---| |Summary of the main

one where we are again proud of the
support we have been able to provide for
families. Our latest Family Room renovation
has been hailed as ‘how every parent room
should be’ and has made a huge difference
to the families who now use it. Even
throughout the toughest times with Covid-19
we have been able to keep providing our
parent bags to the ambulances and SCBU.
We have also started supplying sensory
bags for children throughout the hospital
who need additional support with their
development due to prolonged periods of
time in the wards. We also continue to
donate lots of physiotherapy and comfort
items to our wards to enable children to
continue their fine and gross motor skill
development and have a nicer experience in
hospital. The mental health benefits to the
people we directly help, and their families is
huge. Through our bereavement support we
have made a huge difference to many
families, with bereavement breaks in the
aftermath of a child’s death, but also with
our events to bring the community together
to support each other. We have also
continued to provide our Cuddle Cot to
families in the time shortly after the death of
a baby, to enable families to have their baby
