NERUKA'S SOUL FOOD SOUP KITCHEN TRUSTEE ANNUAL REPORT, 2024
Neruka's Soul Food Soup Kitchen marked fifteen years of serving and partnering with the beautifully diverse community of peoples in Leeds. To commemorate this wonderful milestone, a memory book has been published and is available on the charity website to help raise funds to continue our much needed charitable services. Website: www.nerukassoulfood.co.uk.
We have managed to increase our Offering with the launch in June of two new projects. Community cafe, and advocacy support and targeted wellbeing support for the Romanian community.
The times we spent with wonderful mothers and other young adult ladies were refreshing, and educational providing more opportunities for partnership and collaboration to strengthen our community, where everyone can feel safe and valued.
Our volunteer numbers increased with the opening of the community cafe and mini wellbeing support project, for Romanian families. The support was delivered mainly through health and well-being workshops, which was around staying healthy through regular health checks-ups, understanding and connecting with support services and building resilience and confidence in communicating individual, family and community needs.
We achieved relatively successful outcomes and welcomed two young women to volunteering with the charity and more relaxed and trusting atmosphere in communication between the regular service users and volunteers.
Neruka's Soul Food in partnership with Proverbs31Woman Education and training community college delivers Food Hygiene, health and safety, Allergen awareness, training, to staff and volunteers. Also administration and regular health and safety checks.
A number of new volunteers were supported with learning practical Food handling and safety while helping with food preparation & serving in the cafe on Thursday & Fridays or Wednesdays in the soup kitchen/food bank.
We are grateful we were successful in receiving the lottery awards for all funding to provide the much needed advocacy support & to start up our community café.
Volunteers and staff also receive regular wellbeing training support from the Humans Being charitable organisation based in Leeds. Lead by Duncan Millard.
Neruka's Soul Food's committee, wish to express deepest gratitude to all who have support us over the last 15 years; especially families, funders, food
