NERUKA'S SOUL FOOD SOUP KITCHEN Charity number: 1164484 – Annual Trustee Report 2021

It is with gratitude and hope that I can say:

We've made it through an extremely difficult yet fulfilling year.

The number of individuals and families who are still struggling with food poverty, no job security, homelessness, hopelessness, loss and especially mental and emotional distress is still worryingly high.

Neruka's Soul Food Soup Kitchen continued to serve hot meals until the middle of the year when work started on the renovation of the kitchen and hall.

Much gratitude goes out to all Neruka's Soul Food Soup Kitchen's partners: food providers, volunteers, funders’ local charity partners. Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic UK, Leeds Food Aid Network, Greg's Foundation, Leeds Christian Community Trust (LCCT),

FareShare, Leeds South and East foodbank, Asda supermarket, Tesco Supermarket,

Pret A Manger, KFC, Tina Leslie@freedomforgirls, Kingdom Government (TA Proverbs31Woman) for taking the management of the renovation project. All who have given support with food, clothing, appliances, furniture ect. Special thanks to Paul snr and Jr White, Joseph and Nakita, Petagaye, Dave Paterson, Amogene and the volunteers from Mustard Seed, Maureen from Harehills Lane Baptist Church, Kaneez Khan, Karen Chaggar from Tesco Supermarket Roundway and so many many more.

(Neruka's Soul Food) Soup Kitchen is dedicated to working with our partners in the city of Leeds and its surroundings to help and support each person who we interact with to know that someone genuinely care about their welfare and is willing to go the extra mile to add value to their lives.

(Neruka's Soul Food) Soup Kitchen is currently working on providing an online support through listening sessions that will be facilitated by five volunteers who have received training Reflective Listening and trauma awareness. Individuals will be able to book their sessions through our website at

www.nerukassoulfood.co.uk, where they will be given the option to for telephone, Zoom or in person one hour sessions.

Neruka's Soul Food Soup received funding from Leeds MIND, The Black Fund and Inner East Housing HAP to set up, provide training and running cost for this project.

Neruka's Soul Food Soup Kitchen is reaching more people from multicultural backgrounds with needs for more than food. By partnering with other charities and organisations that provide additional resources eg. Education and training with Proverbs 31Woman, Mental group support and workshops with HumansBeing, pastoral support from local churches and other faith groups. We're hoping to help as many people as possible to see and realise a better future without the need for food banks and Soup kitchens. Until then, we continue to give of our best.
