TRUSTEES. REPORT (¢ontinued)
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2024
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objects of the charity
The trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance
on public ￿nefit when reviewng the charity's aims and objectives and in pEanning future activities.
The purpose of the charity is the advancemerrt of education and in particular the education of people
not in full time gainful employment who are in the third age (being the period of time after the firsl
age of childhood dependen￿ and the second age of full time employment andlor parental
responsibility) residing in Southport. Merseyside and its surrounding localty.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Throughout the year the chaity continued to hold muftiple activities and events bringing together the
educational and soual support for its members including combatting loneliness for some. The
trustees believe that through these activthès they fulfil the reqU1￿ments of the Charity Commission's
genefal guidance on public benefft.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
During the year the charity generated income of £242.*2 {2023 - £192,234) and Spent £221,187
12023 - £182,306). This resulted in a surplus of £21,775 {2023 - £9,928).
Principal funding sources
The major source of income for the charity has come from group meetings and events.
Reserves policy
The Chattty's policy on reserves is to generate and maintain a balance which is sufficient to cover at
least six months operational expenditure. The trustees consider that a level of six months is
sufficient to meet rts expected commitments both W￿th regard to its fundraising activities and
charitable expenditure.
As at 31 August 2024, months expenditLFre was calculated to be £110.593. whilst the amount
held in reserves was £81,948. The Irustees appreciale that this level 1$ not up to the full six months
expenditure but is deemed acceptable as surpluses are being made each year to increase the
reseNe$ and in difficult circumstances evenls can be cancelled which would quickly curtail the
ongoing costs of the charty. The trustees keep the balance held in reserves under review.
Remuneratlon of Trnstees
All trustees act in a voluntary capacty and receive no remuneration or other material benefits from
their services to the Charity.
out￿f-poCket expenses necessarity and reasonabty ineurred by trustees in promoting the purposes
of the Charty are reimbursed at cost.

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2024
I report on the financial statements of the charlty for the year ended 31 August 2024. which are set
out on pages 6 to 13.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and exarniner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of Ihe accounts. The charity's trustees
consider Ihat an audtt is not required for this year under section 144 of the Chariti-es Act 2011 (the
Charities Act) and that an independent examination is need&J.
It is my responsibilty to:
(il examine the accounts under sectK)n 145 of the Charities Act.
(ill to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charty
Commission (under section 145(5)(b} of the Charities Act. and
lili) to state whether particular matters have come to our attention.
Basis of independent examineVs statement
My examination was carried out in accordance wth general directions given by the Charity
Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by Ihe charity and a
comparison of the accounts presented wth those records. It also includes consideration of arry
unusual items or disclosures in the accounts. and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning
any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required
in an audit, and consequenlty no opinion is given as lo whether the accounls present a 'true and fai
view and the report is limited to those matters set ¢)ut in the statement below.
Independent exarnineVs ststement
In connection wth my examination, no matter has come to my attenth)n:
al wh￿h gives me reasonable Cause to believe that in. any material respect, the
requirements=
to keep acts)unting records in ￿)rdance with section 130 of the Chartties A¢t,' and
to prepare accounts which accord wth the accounting records and comply with the
accounting requirements of the Charities Act

understanding of the accounls to be reached.
