## **GREAT BARR WAR MEMORIAL HALL TRUSTEES REPORT**

On behalf of the Trustees of the Memorial Hall I submit this report covering the period from October 2021 – October 2022.

This period covers the continued transition from the Covid Pandemic and the increased financial pressures on the nation as a whole. During this time so many community projects nationwide have been put on hold or in many cases folded completely. The financial issues on a global scale have restricted us all and it is with relief when we reflect on the steps taken in relation to the upkeep of the hall that the impact on the halls wellbeing compared to many similar projects has been so slight.

Whilst like many the hall did lose some regular bookings and it has taken time to re-establish both regular and new ‘clients’. We are fortunate in still being able to have a hard working secretary whose enthusiasm and common sense has been invaluable in maintaining and now seeing an increase in our ‘bookings’ and our thanks must go to Mrs Brenda HATFIELD (nee White). Mrs HATFIELD keeps a close liaison with the trustees and advice is constantly sought and appropriate decisions are made together.

With many financial issues facing all community organisations the Memorial Hall has only marginally increased hiring fees not even in line with inflation. We are fortunate in relation to all the energy issues facing the country as during the hall refurbishment we changed to a must more cost effective LED electrical system throughout the hall which greatly lessened any impact the energy crisis has had on us compared to elsewhere.

The previous changes made have also proved invaluable and so many positive comments have been made and continue to do so that the future is still looking positive and bright for the Memorial Hall and the communities using it.

It is also pleasing to note that we are now catering for a really diverse range of organisations and persons. For example there

are different cultures taking advantage of the hall to exercise different faiths there are ‘pet’ organisations, fitness and health organisations and drama groups. Of course there are other purposes catered for by the hall, birthday celebrations private functions etc.

During this past year the finance for booking fees totalled twenty thousand five hundred and sixty five pounds (£20.565.99p) and all expenditures totalled sixteen thousand seven hundred and forty five pounds and ninety five pence (£16.745.95p) leaving a surplus of three thousand eight hundred and twenty pounds and four pence (£3.820.04p) with continued use of the hall and the hopeful trend of more persons, groups and communities taking advantage of the facilities this figure may well increase within the next twelve month period.

Great Barr War Memorial Hall remains solvent, viable and a benefit to the community.

David Nix MBE For and on behalf of the Trustees.
