-
Social Media Profile of Wellow Recreation remains high on the agenda for 2023/2024.
Playing Field Maintenance
-
The grass at the entrance to the playing field had suffered vehicle damage and the Parish Council funded repairs to dig up, fill in and returf the area on 10 February 2023
-
The remedial work on the field drainage system proved a success with no reoccurrence of previous years’ flooding from the adjacent fields despite heavy rain. Thanks to Dave Workman for his initiative in designing the solution.
-
Repairs to the goalmouths, verti-draining and top-dressing were completed on 10 May 2022 thanks to kind donations of £2k from Wellow Valley Tennis and Wellow Parish Council for repairs to the playing field and its equipment.
-
A serious underground water leak was detected, excavated, and repaired by a team of volunteer parishioners on 30 December 2022, saving us a large bill from a builder.

WELLOW RECREATION
-
WPC were awarded 420 saplings to plant a new hedge inside the northern boundary fence of the playing field under ‘The Queens Green Canopy’ Platinum Jubilee initiative. The Saplings were planted on Sunday 20 November 2022 by a large volunteer group of Wellow families and children. A further 60 saplings were donated by the Horticultural society to complete the jubilee hedge.
-
We continued to do our job in maintaining the sports field and children's play park on behalf of the Parish Council.
Pavilion
-
Sports Pavilion accumulated £1,198 deficit for the year shared equally between WVT and WR. This is mainly due to lack of income from pavilion hires. Covid was still a major disincentive for indoor parties and gatherings during the first half of 2022.
-
Regular Pavilion Hires for Children’s Parties continue to bring in some income, but we need to restore lost activity.
-
Priority actions going forward will place an emphasis on increased occupancy and offsetting these costs.
-
Renewed team working on a plan of how to achieve a reduction in the deficit next year.
Community Chest
-
The highlight of the first 3 months was the Wellow 10KM and Fun Run on Sunday 5[th] March, which saw 250 runners and walkers enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryside with an excited crowd of well-wishers supporting the start and finish on the Wellow Recreation Field. Thanks to the 10KM team for their brilliant organisation, which saw the event go without a hitch and raised 2k for the Community Chest.
-
After a gap of 2 years the first post-pandemic Xmas Sparkle Party was held in St. Julian's Church on 9 December which raised an amazing £4,384 for local charities
-
The Parlour Shop hosted a sell out Italian evening on 25[th] March as a community chest event which raised a successful £1k

-
Financial surpluses or losses to be shared between the two organisations equally.
-
The Village Show Team is established to organise the Show, whilst being accountable equally to Wellow Rec and Hort Soc to deliver the show to their agreed plan and within the target budget.
-
That Wellow Rec and Hort Soc take a shared responsibility for ensuring the retention/recruitment of a Show Team into future years to preserve the continuation of the Village Show.
-
in years when strong cash surpluses are received from the Show, a share of the proceeds will be discussed & might be donated to other village organisations or charities.
-
The first years of the partnership, Wellow Rec request to build up a reasonable 'ring fenced' Village Show cash reserve to prepare for occasional years when bad weather can cause a small financial losses.
