## WELLOW RECREATION ## 1) **What We do** - Manage and maintain the playing field and play park on behalf of the Parish Council. - Share Management of the Sports Pavilion with Wellow Valley Tennis - Promote sporting and fitness activities for residents of Wellow and neighbouring villages. ## 2) **Summary of Spring 2021 – 2022 and achievements over the last year:** - Completed the final work to the children’s play park and organised the release of remaining funds to the contractor. Play equipment is under guarantee for 1 year from 5[th] May 2021. - Carried out remedial work following ROSPA Play Park Inspection report, the work involved the removal and replacement of some rotten ‘legacy’ wooden structures. - Ensured that the play park, playing field and sports pavilion have complied with government Covid-19 restrictions - Remained financially sustainable despite loss of income from sports groups and fund raising events. - Sports Pavillion accumulated £749 deficit for the year shared equally between WVT and WR and was mainly due to income from the pavilion - Secured a regular annual payment from St Julian’s School for the use of WR sports field, Tennis & Sports day field preparation. - We work well together with the various village organisations to make things work and the parish council work with us to make things happen when they need to. - We continued to do our job in maintaining the sports field on behalf of the Parish Council. Page **1** of **3** ## WELLOW RECREATION ## 3) **What are our strategic objectives for the next few years:** ##  **PROMOTE:** - Continued focus on the increase participation in sports and fitness on the playing field. Sports currently include Walking football, regular boot camps, Boules, additional football matches, regular cricket. Attracting different clubs to use our facilities will allow us to secure a small income from coaches for the use. - Planning to hold a Wellow 10km Ramble and Run and a Love, Peace & Community celebration together with the Community Chest this year. - Attract new talent to the WR Trustees to help with the promotion of WR sports. For example Notice Board ‘What’s On’, Website updates, Interviews with Sports Leaders and leverage Social Media opportunities to promote WR. ##  **GROWTH:** - Evolve the tennis model so that WR sports are further utilised by Tennis and plan to engage new coaches – Blue Sky following very successful Tennis Camps during the school termly holidays. - Increase St Julian’s usage during school and afterschool clubs i.e. regular school Netball and Tennis in addition to weekly football by Raph on Monday’s - Return of St Julian’s Schools Sports Day to Wellow Recreation. - Increase the income for the pavilion through advertising & social media. Looking to re-instate Pilates, Language classes & Children’s parties following the recent relaxation of the Covid Pandemic rules. ##  **MAINTAIN, CONTINUE & IMPROVE** - Following the successful completion of the playpark, approx. 5k remaining funds are now held by WR and the PC. These funds will be a sinking fund for repairs and replacement of play equipment to ensure good working order and compliance with Health & Safety. - Improve & level the surface of the football pitch and goalmouths which we will seek approval for proposed works from the Parish Council. - Explore opportunities to improve the space currently utilised by the outdoor gym. WR recently received a proposal to dismantle the outdoor gym due to low usage and requested a replacement table tennis table. WR will survey village opinion before making a proposal. - Continue work with the nominated sports leads & stay in touch with their requirements. - Share success stories & experiences across all sports through social media. - Obtain feedback from the parish council and Wellow Residents for proposed improvement initiatives and act on any actions that arise.
