STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES: To advance the education of the public in the history, heritage and ujlture of Dale, Marfoes. St Brides and St Ishmael and the suffounding areas through researth, Gompiling of records, publication of books and leafiets, arranging lectures, meetings, events, exhibitions and by the establishment of an archtve contsining infomiation. artefacts and photographs and the provision and Maintenan of a Heritage Centre. and by suth other charitable means as the Trustees shall think frt.- Again during 2024-25, adivitses have taken pla in furtheran of these aims. LECTURES AND TALKS. SPECIAL EVENTS. VISITS: 2024 saw a full programme, startiro with a talk by Simon Hancock desuibing the Vanished Glorres of Medieval Haverfordwest lookiThJ at the Wals and Gates the town had then. April saw the fomial launch of°HARRIER- Out of the Ue. a book on the Military history of the Kete site written by Mrs Pam Haines. In keeping with the military theme. the talk which had been postponed from 2023 by Gareth Mills dtscussed The Friendly Invasion - Amertcan Gls arriving in numbers in our area. A complete change of direction from Dr Marttn Crampin explaining the techniques of Stain Glass using the w1nd0v at St Bridgets church. St Brides as examples. Dr Julian Whitewright took us through the history of Coastal Limekilns of West Wales whiEe Dr Toby Driver gave an overview of the CHERISH project to vthich the group contrilyjted as the projed was now dosing. Dr Ken Murphy caused great ex(itement with his des(p"on of the dig which uncovered the Chariot Burial in Pembrokeshire. Simon Hancock turned to give a whistte stop tour of Historic Shipwrecks in Pembrokeshire and the year ended with Gareth Reynolds recounting his experience Rowing the Atlantic. Members had a visit to Penthos Cottage with an extra VtsFt to Haverfordwest Museum thrown in. THE OLD STABLES HERITAGE CENTRE" Coastlands Local Plistory Group leases The Old Stables Heritage Centre from Dale Castle Estate.. Risk Assessments have been undertaken for-Fire° and °Heaith and Safety. by Dr Steve Morrell the appointed Safety Officer for The Old Stables Heritage Centre. Mrs Harriet Bishop, the appoirrted Data Protection Offir for the group. conts.nues to supeISe adherence to the Group's Dats Protethon Procedures. Other policies held by the group are on Safeguarding. Chikl Protection. Welsh Language and Equal Opportunities. All policy documents are available for scrutiny in The Old Stables Heritage Centre. The Old Stables Herttage Centre will continue to be used by the communty, especially those doing their own research. The Old Stables Heritage Centre was open in 2024 with an Exhibition °HARRIER - Out of the Blue. to compliment the launch of the book by Mrs Pam Haines. CONTACT WITH OTHER GROUPS: Members were involved with the War Memorial Committee in St Ishmaels as a new War Memorial was ttsmmission. Members attended the PCNPIDyfed Archaeology Trust Archae01Y Day at Pembrokeshire College. Members have joined visits. touts and workshc¥B organised by PAVS. We have liaised wtth other groups such as PLANED. Dyfed Archaeology Twst arKI Pembrokeshire County Council to showcase our area's history. Whilst the CHERISH project has closed. the group continue to work with RCAHMW as it continues to record and moniior vulnerable sites. RESEARCH: The recording the arthive material online Continues. tt is hoped, in time. it wll be availabie to the wider communty via the Group's website. Work continues on the Dyfed Archaeology Trust Local Sites SuNey, in which members are asked to visit sites listed on the database to check rf the informatton gNen is up to date and
rre¢L We are also asked to nobfy Camlxia Arthaeology of any other sites we know of which are not listed on the database. We participate in prqects, run by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Dyfed Archaeology Trust and The Royal Commission for Ancient arKI Historic Monuments Wales, as they come up, monitoring our area for sites which need preserving. or investigating before they completety dtsappear, and would urge members to become part of the scheme. The Group has drawn the attention of RCAHMW to various sites of interest and Dr Julian WhiWigh( RCAHMW. is working with memLErs to record as many a5 possible. WEBSITE: We own our domain site. Kevin Roget5 has updated and streamlined the bSite. We continue to get queries through the site and thank members who have helped to answer these. The Group also has a Face Book paJe. INSURANCE: We continue to use the British Asswation of Local History Societies. Insurano policy, covering the Coastlands Local History Group {CIO) for Public Liabilty and Equipment. We have increased the cover to include visitors to The Old Stables Heritage Centre, and our assets. Members are reminded that they should cover themselves for Personal Accidents. AIRCRAFT CARTOONS. DALE CAMP: The group continues to rent the premises on Dale Camp containing the Barrack Room Cartoons. Interested parties are taken to vW the cartoons requested. COMMirrEE: The Trustees met nine times duriNJ the year to ptan the programme. take administrative decisions, C¢>ordinate research work and ensure that recorts are preserved. Members are advised by email as to any items the committee may become aware of which might be of interest to them or to impad on them.
