## KIDLINGTON FC TRUSTEES REPORT 2020/21

Despite the fact that we had another Covid interrupted year, it was a successful one for us. We managed to achieve a surplus of £44k which will be re invested into providing football locally in the coming year.

Our volunteers worked very hard to maintain and improve all of our facilities, both to improve our fundraising ability and footballing experience.

The firsts had a very promising start to the league, only losing 1 game from 6. First team manager Ben Sadler felt that the club has created a positive culture, and the management team had created a clear identity as to how they want to play and had set out core values. This, Ben felt, was as important as the results on the pitch.

They had two promising cup runs, one in the FA cup, enjoying good wins against Thame and Salisbury, and some positive wins in the FA trophy, finishing in a very narrow defeat to Moneyfields.

They are always looking to youth and again promoted a number of younger players to the first team group.

The recent Hellenic Tournament was a success and they were able to look at a few more of the younger players, whilst also winning the tournament.

Kidlington reserve side finished in a creditable 7th place in Hellenic Division one and were looking forward to a 1/4 final in the floodlit Cup against Brimscombe and Thrupp when the season was brough to an end by Covid.

The Development side were a young team playing their first season in men’s football, 15 of them being under the age of 18. The lads found the matches very tough. However, as the season progressed and with the help of some more experienced player’s they were beginning to compete in each game they played. Encouragingly they had 5 players under the age of 18 represent the Reserves at different points of the season. There run in the FA youth cup using players from the Development side plus the U16’s & U17’s was a particular highlight, beating both Thatcham & Wokingham away before eventually traveling to the New Forest to play Brockenhurst FC for a place in the 1[st] round proper, unfortunately coming up short against an exceptional young side.

The u17s completed their league matches and finished 3rd. They were also the 3rd highest goal scorers and had the 3rd best defence. Certainly a theme there!

A great end to season for Will Price, who was on fire in front of goal, and Alex Preston excelling at right back.

The Under 16’s completed all their league matches and finished 3[rd] .

Unfortunately due to a lack of commitment from some key players they have had to call time prematurely, but on the plus side at least four current members of the squad will continue with other teams within the club.

The A team’s league finished just after they had started to get some winning results. They started poorly and relied on the support of other sides within the club. A new mini league was launched which they finished top in losing in the semi-final against Ashton Folly at Yarnton Road.

The Academy, due to the pandemic, had a very stop start season but they were rewarded with some end of season honours at the ESPFA awards.

Steven Soares completed a wonderful individual year by being named the Southern League Player of the Year and also gaining a place in the ESPFA National Team of the Year. In the individual team awards nominated by coach Redd Pratley, Steven also won Player of the Year and Ben Russell student of the year. Steven is off to the US on a scholarship and Ben along with 5 others are off to uni. Finally, Steven was short-listed scoring one of 15 nominated National goals of the season (out of some 500+ goals scored) Both Jack Lay and Steven Soares were included in the Southern Division Team of the Season.

All in all, a disruptive season for all teams, but one that will never be forgotten.
