Forecast

Forecast 2026

Key Features

2026 funding has fallen from a high in 2019. Donors are located mostly in the UK and the USA. The economic downturn has affected the SGP fund raising initiatives in these countries, and has effected the ability to increase funding levels year on year.

Funds are raised in the UK and the USA through individual donors and corporate donors. Funds are raised through funded events or through regular corporate donation under CSR initiatives.

Health Projects

SGP provides funding for the St. Christopher’s Nkuringo Green Hill Health Centre (NGHH). The facility has been registered as a Type III facility (Ugandan health clinic classification) is to be able to provide health services, in line with guidelines set out by the Uganda Ministry of Health, delivered by the community.

It is the intent of SGP that the Ministry of Health and agencies of the Catholic Church will be able to join SGP in co-funding the facility in line with the MOU. The MOU states that SGP will fund up to 100% of costs of NGHH during the first 5 years of operation. Thereafter, SGP will fund 60% of costs in years 6 and 7. In years 8, 9 and 10, funding will be reduced to 30% of costs. The MOU was signed on the 25[th] February 2016.

SGP intends to adhere to the co-funding model and in time hand-over the NGHH to the ultimate beneficiary, where SGP no longer provides funding.

Sustainability

During 2026, SGP will prioritise initiatives to initiate sustainable funding methods through the Catholic church, the local community, the District and the Ministry of Health. Whilst there are charges for consultations with the medical staff at NGHH from the patients, SGP will extend funding sources more widely.

SGP will start the process of UCMB accreditation and membership.

SGP will be seeking support from the Kisoro District to drive through this plan for sustainability.

  4. Promote and provide Primary Health Care in accordance to the Uganda Government Health Mandate.

  5. Train personnel and health workers to provide health services at NGHH.

RC Parish of Rubuguri undertakes to:

  1. To provide land to the SGP at no cost, for the construction of NGHH.

  2. To provide a committee to provide direction and management, resources and manpower to construct the NGHH.

  3. To be available for election on the Board of Directors.

  3. Management services

  4. Medical supplies and equipment

  5. Payroll of staff

manager also provides oversight at the clinic in terms of supervision of staff, monitors drug stock and makes the necessary drug purchases on a monthly basis.

Education Projects

Supporting educational initiatives is a cornerstone of the SGP activity. Ensuring children stay at school for longer and achieve better results will improve the welfare of communities and enrich the lives of individuals. It is of paramount importance that children stay in education for as long as possible to provide themselves with the best opportunities and choices in their lives.

This can take the form of supporting a child at one of the private schools or providing more general funding and support for children, teaching staff and building school infrastructure in government and community schools specifically. Funding of activities at the government and community schools is done on a project-by-project basis as well as providing funders the opportunity to support a child at a government school.

SGP has a policy of supporting government and community schools as a priority as private schools can receive funds from non SGP sources and children who go to private schools can clearly afford to do so.

Infrastructure & bio toilets

Since SGP has been providing support to the Kisoro District, the funding of infrastructure and construction projects in schools has been a key feature. Infrastructure support for schools ranged from provision of iron sheets for roofing to bio toilet and classroom construction.

Teachers

SGP funds the salaries of teachers in schools at Rutooma, and previously at St. Christophers (Ntungamo Primary School), Murole.

Lightening Arrestors

SGP have provided lightning arrestors at schools in Akengeyo, Murole, Nombe, Rubuguri Primary and St. Josephs Rubuguri. SGP will continue to provide lightning arrestors when requested to do.

Textbooks

SGP has provided textbooks at schools in Suma, Ntungamo and Rutooma as well as construction of a library in Iryavumba High School Rubuguri.

School fees

SGP provide school fees for 46 children. It is the SGP strategy to reduce the total amount invested in school fess in future years, to ensure that more funding is 12

Key Features  11 children supported  Over 40 schools supported  Managed by Alexsandra Kamanyire and supported by Perey Ngabirano

Budgets have decreased for the Education projects with no infrastructure initiatives planned.

Should infrastructure projects be initiated they will continue to focus on facilities for girls’ latrines and changing rooms. This will support the initiative for keeping girls at school for longer. In turn, more girls will proceed through education to provide choices for more varied career opportunities.

Management

The Education projects are run by Alexsandra Kamanyire and supported by Perey Ngabirano. The manager identifies poor and needy families that cannot afford a child’s education requirements. They initiate SGP intervention, and the child is helped according to the needs (these may include among others; provision of school fees, study materials and child’s upkeep). In addition, schools that are in need are identified and the necessary support is given (these may include among others; provision of roofing iron sheets, construction of classrooms, 14

Empower Her

Key Features  Over 20 women engaged.  Activity delivering income.

Continued funding for vocational projects in 2026 will include the funding of the Empower Her initiative started in 2019. During 2020 and 2021, much of the activity in this project had to cease due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions and protocols.

The Empower Her project has been set up to support young women who have had their education interrupted by teenage pregnancy. The project provides the tools and knowledge they need to build their self-esteem, restore their confidence and develop skills to sustain themselves financially.

The Empower Her project has a dedicated classroom in Rubuguri equipped with manual sewing machines. To provide the tuition, teachers are contracted to provide classes in basket weaving, bead work, dress making and sewing skills.

The Empower Her project also provides seminars and tutorials, presented by successful women as role models. This initiative is provided to illustrate options and life choices available to break the cycle of under achievement and early pregnancy.

This initiative is fully funded by SGP, with materials, tuition costs and buildings costs. Products that are made by the group, that are taken for sale overseas are accounted for and the Empower Her members are compensated for the sale of products.

SGP will also fund on a discretionary basis other community-based projects that provide services for women.

Community Projects

Community projects are delivered through supporting water capture, and solar power provision.

Water projects are based around the delivery of three types of initiatives:

  1. Water tank installation, (3,000 litre and 5,000 litre)

  2. Water pipe research and installation (use of hydraulic ram technology) 3. Water filter installation

Children collect the water for household needs. A trip to the water sources in the valleys and spring sources in the hills twice a day, has now been replaced with well-located water tanks. Children now spend more time at school. Standards are improving in educational results providing better choices in the lives of the community.

Since 2014, over 76 water tanks and water filters have been installed over an extensive area. Water tanks and water filters have been installed across the Nteko Ridge, from Nkuringo to Kabaya, Suma, Chicomo and Rugandu villages as well as in Rubuguri, Kisoro, Lake Mutanda areas and in the Wakiso district.

This has been a popular and transformational project for both locals and sponsors, since these installations provide a great opportunity for the community and sponsors to work together to install the tanks.

Forecast 2026

Key Features  Over 76 water tanks installed to date.  20 solar panels installed to date.  Solar powered stoves installed.

Management

For the 2026 period, there is no project manager dedicated to Community projects. Interim management support will be provided by Alexsandra Kamanyire and supported by Perey Ngabirano. The project management decide upon the location of the water tanks (this is based on among other things; number of people in an area, presence of the elderly, children and the need) and the community then gets involved in installing the tanks. The tanks are transported by truck and on foot to the location. Concrete is mixed, bricks are laid, the tanks are placed and to finish off, the gutters are positioned to direct the water flow from the roofs of buildings.

Community projects have no budget allocated for 2026. Should budget be created then SGP will continue to support water capture systems, and solar 22
