Listening, Caring, Helping – we are non-judgemental and non- discriminatory and will give time and unconditional love to anyone. The gospel is at the heart of what we do and why we do it, but not the forefront of what we say. We are about helping people improve their lives. The concept of the urban Trinity, working in partnership and together with local trained DBS screened Christian volunteers and statutory organisations is fundamental to how Street Pastors operate. A valuable contribution is also given to the night time economy steering group meetings with statutory organisations and the Weymouth pubwatch group. Collaboration between Weymouth Street Pastors, other statutory agencies and licensees resulted in the commencement of the bi-monthly NTE (night Time Economy) meetings. During the year the national SAVI (Security and Vulnerability Initiative was introduced by the Dorset Council to replace the Purple Flag. |

Para 1.20 | Collaboration between statutory organisations, night time economy venues has enabled the Weymouth Street Pastor’s volunteers to help care, help and listen to individuals in Weymouth town centre on Friday and Saturday nights. Throughout this calendar year the Weymouth Street Pastor Team of 27 volunteers (3 of whom are Trustees) undertook 98 patrols which equate to 1629 volunteer hours. 447 bottles of water and 10 space blankets were given out to those in need. The Trustees can report that the initiative continues to have a marked impact in the town centre. The significant reduction in alcohol related incidents has attributed to the minimal anti-social behaviour statistic whilst the teams are on the streets. Additionally, the team dealt with 54 alcohol, 9 drug and 42 health and mental health issues during their patrols. Supporting the community included picking up 447 bottles, 259 glasses, 712 tin cans (which can be |
used as weapons) and sweeping up 76 smashed glass items thus removing hazards. 151 Pairs of flipflops were handed out to women seen walking bare foot, thus reducing the risk of injury. To support the safety and care of vulnerable people the team also helped 88 unwell clients to get help, engaged with 13 ‘at risk’ young person and gave general advice/pastoral care to 132 individuals and 116 rough sleepers. We also accompanied 3 persons to a place of safety. We also had interaction with 11 youngsters under 16. The Trustees continue to receive regular favourable comments from the police, local community leaders, town manager retailers and ward councillors. The initiative will continue to play its part in the night time economy of Weymouth and holds regular reviews and is in discussion with the local pub watch group and police. It is recognised that Street Pastors’ ministry makes a real difference in reducing antisocial behaviour by being a visible nonthreatening presence on the streets of Weymouth. Safe Space continues to be supported by the Dorset Council. Paramedics and Security staff are based at St Mary’s church. If any member of the public is unwell or needs basic medical assistance they can be dealt without the need to call for an ambulance and we have continued to direct and take those in need to this initiative.
