ACTION KIDNEY CANCER began its work as a voluntary sUPPOrt or8anisation in 2006. As the Groups responsibilities, grew it was registered as a fomal charitable incorporated organisation ICIOI on the 3rd November 2015. The charity is managed according to it5 governing documents dated 3rd November 2015. The charity underwent a complete rebrandin8 during in 2021 and is now known by its working name ACTION KIDNEYCANCER. Where there is a requirement for new Trustees, they will be identified and appointed by the current Trustees. The ACTION KIDNEY CANCER management team is responsible for the induction of any new Trustees, and this will involve a briefing about Trustee responsibilit5. the governing documerst, and the
adopted operating policies and procedures of the charity. All Trustees provide their services to the charity on a voluntary unpaid basis. The Trustees delegate day-to-day responsibility for the running of the charity to the Executive Officer and the management team who are accoLtntable to the Trustees and report to the Trustees throughout the year as required and at regular Trustee meetings. The Trustees have a duty to identify and review all risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error. The Trustees regularly review the risks that the charity may face, and the Trustees will continue to monitor the risks associated with its activities and continue to be vigilant as to other risks that might be associated with a charity providing SUPPOrt services to people affected by kidney cancer. The Trustees have agreed and adopted a series of operating policie5 to ensure the charity runs smoothly and complies with all charity commission requirements and legal responsibilities. The operatin8 policies are reviewed every two years and are available by written request to the ACTION KIDNEY CANCER management team. Some policies are available via the ACTION KIDNEY CANCER website. The Trustees declare as part of this annual return, that there are no serious incidents or other matters the Trustees should have reported to the Charity Commission. Charlty oblectlves and actlvltles To promote and protect the physical and mental health of patients with kidney cancer in the United Kingdom by.. l. The provision of information. support, education and practical advice to kidney cancer patient5. their families, and their carers 2. To advance the education and awareness of all matter5 relating to kidney cancer with the general public 3. Promoting and supporting research projects into the causes, diagrFosis, prevention, treatment. and cure of kidney cancer and disseminatin8 the results of such research. The Trustees meet a minimum of once a year, to discuss, agree and record charitable activities, strategy, funding priorities,'and OPeting policies, including risk management. Project meetings are held throughout the year as required and/or as requested by the Trustees or monagement team. Public benefit The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance provided by the charity commission's general guidance and advice on public benefit. In planning all activities including financial policies, the trustee5 confirm they have complied with the duty in section 17151 of the 2011 Charities Act and the Trustees are satisfied that all charitable activities during the year are for the benefit of the publit. Chair's Statement This year has been one of both consolidation and pro8res5 for Action Kidney Cancer. Despite sector-wide funding challen8es, our small team has worked tirelessly to ensure that kidney cancer patients and their carers receive the support, advocacy, and guidance they need. l am proud of what we have achieved and deeply grateful to every member of the management team who have worked so hard to make these achievements possible.
About Action Kidney Cancer Artion Kidney Cancer is the UK'S only patient founded and patient-led kidney cancer charity. founded in 2006 and formally registered in 2015. We exist to ensure that all kidney cancer patients have access to the best possible care and treatment. We work to improve outcomes and the quality of life for kidney cancer patients. survivors, carers, and their families. Our charity is guided by a unique Board of Trustees that includes world-leading clinicians- Professor James Larkin (Royal Marsdenl and Professor Samra Turajlic {Francls Crlck Institute/Royal Marsden)- and Mr Andy Thomas, Mr Jon Pym, Mrs Alison Fielding BEM, and Mrs Salene Mulhere who are patients and carers with personal experience of kidney cancer. Thi5 ensures our charity is guided by people who have a shared goal to serve the kidney cancer community and to ensure the charity remains authentici prartical, and patient-centred. We provide.. Personalised, practical support for patients and carers navigating the complexities of the NHS High-quality, evidence-based patient information and resources in a variety of formats Advocacy on policy, treatment access and research Daily updates on news and advances through social media and our website Tailored support and resources that reflect the diverse cultural, ethnic. and socioeconomic back8rounds of people affected by kidney cancer. Main Achievements This Year Patient Support This year we have strengthened and expanded our support services to ensure patients and carers receive help when they need it most- Our online support forurn saw a significant increase in en8agement and new members. Our dedicated helpline continued to provide compassionate one-to-one 5UPPOrt. We increased our "Ask the Expert" videos to 21 in our online library. New patient information resources in patient friendly formats were added to our website, tailored to UK-specific needs. Our team presented at a 5UPPOrt meeting In Oxford and supported the launch of a new group in Surrey. We successfully launched the Renal Oncology Nurse Network supporting CNSS across the Country: hosting patient information days, distributing resources and opening new lines of communication. We partnered with Projert Flutter to create a launch video and supported their efforts to distribute butterfly bags and cushions to NHS hospitals. We authored two of four modules for the RCC4Nurses online course.
We led the Coalition for Reducing Bureaucracy in cllnlcal trlals working group developing a patient-friendly ICF Ilnformed Consent Forml template. We participated in several Health Technology Assessment (HTA) submissions. Research Support & Involvement We have continued to influence and support kidney cancer research through strong patlent & public involvement.. UK Renal Oncology Group.. We provide a full secretariat support for this newly formed group of renal clinicians focused on non.commercial research priorities following the demise of the NCRI. Responslbillty for promoting the International Kidney Cancer Coalition Global Patlent Survey, achievin8 197 UK responses-one ofthe highest response rates. We manage the Patient Involvement and Public engagement for the Global CARE-I Cllnical trial, a large cross border European biomarker study, including establishing an International Patient Advisory Board. Promoted PPIE best practice and supported funding applications across the UK. Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities
The trustees are responsible for preparing the trustees' report and the financial statements in accordance with the United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice) and applicable law and regulations.
The law applicable to charities requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
