These include: - Department for Work and Pensions - Christ church - DIYYA - Lye Library - Reaching for Change (community group supporting Roma communities) - Dudley Council Public Health Sector - Dudley CVS - Dudley Council Adult & Community Learning All trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no other benefits. ## **Section C Objectives and activities** **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Lye and it’s surrounding areas of Dudley Borough, without the distinction of; sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions. By associating together the said inhabitants, the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations to collectively work together in a common effort to; advance education, to relieve poverty & sickness, to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time purposes. **R**|In planning our activities & bookings for the year, trustees were mindful
of the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, ensuring that
our activities meet our constitutional aims & objectives.
Through the success of our funding application made to “Awards For
All,” we delivered the following courses &
community event at the Lye Community Centre.
Activity- English Classes and it’s
benefits for the wider community:
Better communication between families/generations. This means that
parents can help children with something as simple as their homework
/ education. It also helps to prevent children in our community from
being exposed to grooming /radicalisation as they can better
communicate with their parents or older family members about any
arising issues and concerns. Due to the growing influx of the Roma
community residing in Lye , there has been a lot of hostility mainly due
to the language barriers between all the diverse communities. To help
improve, develop and create healthy relationships and build on
community cohesion, it was vital that the focus was prioritised on
those activities that were delivered based on common grounds and
which supported better communication and linking people together.
Activity – Health & Fitness and it’s benefits for the wider community:
Happier and healthier communities, improved fitness levels, better
management of health conditions, decreasing the burden off the NHS,
a facility which is based local, easily accessible and affordable . An
activity delivered at your local community centre can help you know
your neighbours and build new bridges of friendship and develop
integration .
Activity- Winter Bazaar
An annual community event delivered during the winter school
holidays, a social event inviting the local community to come join a fun
and entertaining day out . Main purpose being to use the centres
platform to bring all the diverse communities together, sharing food,
music, laughter, games and each other’s culture. Learning and finding
common grounds to help bring a community together.
The Lye Community centre as well as offering opportunities for
community based initiatives, is also a place of hire.
During the weekdays the centre is booked out to regular/permanent
user groups, who provide a wide range of services to support the
needs of the local community.

Support group for the disabled & special needs adults
Support group for disabled children & carers
Senior Citizens support group
Youth Clubs
Crafters club
Holiday clubs
Community events

4| March **2012** **TAR** **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** We are very grateful for the enormous contribution made by our volunteers. Inclusive of the trustees the centre is currently managed by skilled and experienced staff (unpaid) whom have received governance training from Dudley CVS. Each voluntary member works with passion and dedication taking on the roles and responsibilities that are required to enable the centre to function adequately and provide a facility that is fit for purpose. The refurbishment has given the centre a complete new contemporary look which includes; Electric doors New signage New flooring layout throughout Painting of the entire building Relocation of kitchen to create more space New fitted kitchen & appliances New toilets, floor, paint, tiled Lower floor basement turned into a complete new office space/mini kitchen Secondary glazing to entire building Fencing CCTV Music System The renovation has improved the overall look of the centre from a run down building to a complete new makeover, this has also enhanced and improved the appearance of the local surroundings. Furthermore as a result of the refurbishment the centre has gained a significant increase in it’s bookings. The extra space gained in the main hall and the lower floor transformation, has provided the much needed space to deliver additional activities and cater for a more wider audience. The Lye Community Centre is located at the heart of the community, which is easily accessible and welcoming for everyone. The capital investment has achieved a massive boost and a positive impact to the area, the building and all of it’s beneficiaries.
