Objects & Governing Statements

__

The charitable company was incorporated on 9 May 2015. It is governed by its Memorandum and Arcles of Associaon. Our work draws on the experiences of our founder, Paul Canoville, the first black footballer to play for Chelsea Football Club, in overcoming racism and adversity. Our objects are to support children and young people develop resilience through sport and other educaonal programmes. Our vision is to become an authority for promong diversity, inclusion and belonging in schools and organisaons across the UK.

Acvity Summary

__

and delivery as a result of raising a record high annual income of £109,473 during the period (2023: £23,487).

Highlights include launching our naonal Educaon Partnership programme, starng with secondary school across the Midlands. Paul Canoville was joined by athletes and creave partners as he delivered talks on the importance of allyship, belonging, and community. This iniave was expanded across the country, in addion to our groundbreaking partnership with Westminster City Council and Kensington & Chelsea Council who engaged us to inspire children from local schools about resilience and overcoming adversity. We were delighted to be one of the lead delivery partners in the 2024 ‘Hope Hack’ held at Stamford Bridge, working alongside Hope Collecve, Rio Ferdinand Foundaon, and Music Against Racism to dismantle racism and promote unity through sport with young people from across London. The end of year was marked by celebraon as we hosted our fih annual ‘Black & Blue Legends’ event - commemorang Chelsea Football Club’s rich diversity since Paul Canoville’s debut in 1982, his charity, and marking Black History Month.

The 12-month period was characterised by partnerships, not least with the Chelsea Foundaon who deliver one of sport’s most comprehensive community programmes on behalf of Chelsea Football Club. We were delighted that the Chelsea Foundaon announced a three-year funding partnership with the Paul Canoville Foundaon during the year. Delivery will commence in the 2024/2025 period, and will focus on educaonal support, skill development and include empowerment to ensure young people receive equitable access to quality educaon and diverse perspecves. We thank Chelsea Foundaon for this vital core funding.

Structure & Management ____

The administraon and strategic leadership of the charity are the responsibility of the Board of Trustees, who delegate day-to-day operaonal management of the charity to the CEO, Raphael Frascogna, in accordance with our Arcles of Associaon. The Board of Trustees meets regularly, or as directed by the Chair, supplemented by regular meengs and 1:1s with the CEO and/or Chair, and wider volunteer base. An Annual General Meeng was held on Thursday 18 July 2024.

We are grateful to have a commied and skilled Board of Trustees, represenng the diverse communies we serve, and we aim to connue to expand our Board of Trustees strategically as we grow. The charity operates a properly considered process of succession planning for Trustees: all are inducted in accordance with guidance in the Charity Commission publicaon 'The Essenal Trustee' and are aware of responsibilies and expectaons, as outlined in our Governance Policy (which was updated in March 2024).

The charity founder, Paul Canoville, remains fully commied and provides services on a freelance basis. This has proved an effecve way to manage the charity as it has scaled and grown, providing a flexible resource. While the current arrangements work well, we review them on a regular basis.

Public Beneft

requirements for ‘smaller charies’ as defined under Statement of Recommended Pracce in accordance with Financial Reporng Standards (SoRP FRS102). The Board of Trustees have met this requirement by including a summary in this annual report seng out the main acvies undertaken by the charity in carrying out its charitable purposes for public benefit; and confirm they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the commission’s public benefit guidance when exercising powers/dues to which the guidance is relevant.

Risk Assessment

__

The Board of Trustees has adopted a connuous process of risk assessment and management of the charity, which it believes is at the correct level for a small and developing organisaon. A risk register is maintained and, where appropriate, robust systems or procedures, including financial, have been established to manage the risk the charity faces at any one me. The Board of Trustees is sasfied that, given we are a small charity with limited resources, our systems, policies, and procedures are sufficiently robust. Risk evaluaon is always considered for any financial transacon/policy/procedure. We connue to review maers of governance, strategy, employment, and risk and will seek guidance from professionals should the need arise.
