Director’s Summary
Overall 2023 has been another good year.
Despite the current economic challenges, we were able to achieve all of our desired goals, albeit operating at a smaller capacity.
We were able to add four new boys to the educational program which was a great encouragement. We also had 9 youth graduates from high school and join colleges and universities around Kenya. This year we had a 100% transfer rate from High school to Higher Education, which is amazing as these were our “Corona Years” students We were also able to run our annual summer camp with all of our youth enjoying a residential 4-day camp at an activity center.
The Guardians Empowerment Program has also been going well with several projects having been started, the most successful of which is a small chicken project. We have also started producing our own crafts for sale, and we are hoping this will turn into a good source of income in the years ahead.
There have been significant administrative and financial challenges on the Kenyan side, including the introduction of a mandatory Housing Levy, a large increment in PAYE and a 30% increase in social security fees.

Fundraising has been a continued focus - we made a particular push on student sponsorship, and we have seen positive fruit from this effort. We held several successful fundraising events during the year and we continue to pursue grants from appropriate trusts and foundations.
We are optimistic that we will continue on our current positive trajectory in 2024-25

Trustees’ Summary
As trustees we have a duty to act within The Noah Initiative's interest of providing grants to promote education and help eradicate poverty. We are pleased to report that this has continued throughout 2023.

We have close oversight of The Noah Initiative's and Noah Society's activities and finances and can report that they are in good order and managed in accordance with appropriate laws and regulations.
We have regular contact with the director and management of The Noah Initiative, based in Eldoret. Regular trustee board meetings have been held throughout the year.
The work in Eldoret is truly transformational for those supported by the program. 2023 was another challenging year for the team on the ground, particularly given the difficult economic situation in Kenya.
That said, the trustees continue to be impressed by the way that the team in Eldoret adapts to difficult challenges and finds impactful ways to support the boys, their families and their communities.
We are particularly pleased to see the innovation in craft production and the retail activity developing in Eldoret.
It is also very encouraging to see many young men moving into university and higher education as a result of the program.
Along with many charities, we continue to be impacted by the very challenging economic climate in both the UK and Kenya. We are therefore extremely grateful to all existing and new donors, supporters and governmental agencies for enabling this truly lifechanging work to continue.
