Chairman’s Report for CTG AGM 04.12.2024

Central TREC Group had 50 members in 2023/24

4 Winter Arena TREC competitions were held at Moulton Equestrian Centre.

2 of them were devoted to training and encouraging new people and horses to try the sport of TREC.

The other two were the Standard Format of TREC GB League Classes plus one or two Club Classes. In Hand Classes continue to be the most popular but the Pairs Class ceased to attract entries so didn’t run at any of the competitions. Open Classes didn’t attract more than 3 entries so only ran at Moulton 1 (for 2 competitors).

We ran ‘desk based’ POR training in pubs during the winter to help members hoping to compete in the summer.

Two successful Summer Competitions were run.

The first at Mill Farm, Theddingworth in May attracted 44 entries for Level 1 and 2 Classes, Individuals and Pairs.

A fine weekend followed a short very wet period which had made last minute ‘wet contingency’ arrangements and the building of the PTV difficult. Fortunately we were able to use the original corralling plans and the field showed no adverse effects after the weekend.

An attractive POR route and a Challenging PTV made the competition very enjoyable. Several local non TREC people helped the Organising Committee with manning Check Points on POR Day.

A more ambitious higher level competition was run from West End Farm, Stonton Wyville in September. This attracted 56 entries which was perhaps a few too many for the facilities and manpower available. The small team of Organisers struggled to cover all the tasks.

The POR route was lovely and gave competitors wonderful experience of beautiful Leicestershire. Sarah Wynn, former CTG Chairman, designed a challenging interesting PTV Course despite the sheep.

Unfortunately no final scores on the day resulted in Queries taking up time in the week following and with no Prize Giving the posting of the prizes was expensive and time consuming. Competitors were largely understanding and the Feedback was positive.

Thanks are very much due to Helen Martin and Helen and Steve Duckmanton assisting me with the Organisation of both competitions.

Central TREC Group, in common with many organisations, suffers from not having enough volunteers willing to organise and judge competitions, at least 25 people are needed to run a Summer Competition in addition to an organising team of 6.

The committee has shrunk and also suffers from clashes with family commitments. We do have 3 new members but we desperately need more and particularly a new Secretary since Bev wants to relinquish the role to devote more time for her daughter.

The Committee meets once a month, alternately by Zoom and ‘in person’ at a Pub, currently The Swan, Lamport.
