## **Objectives and activities of the charity**
## _**The purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document.**_
The purpose of the charity is to save lives and improve quality of life by providing health care facilities and necessary education. The charity undertakes projects in the UK and Pakistan.
## _**The main activities undertaken in relation to those purposes during the period.**_
The charity continued its charitabe work despite disruptions caused by the pandemic from March 2020. Many new projects were started along with the ones already running from previous years. APPS UK Foundation started the following new projects:
## **I Want To Earn Not Beg (Free Sewing Centres-3/Partnership)**
The project empowers the disadvantaged and often abused women by providing 6 months free training for the stitching and design work followed by a gift of sewing machine to work from home, and therefore create home based entrepreneurship.
## **I Want To Earn Not Beg (Free Fruit carts)**
The project offers Fruit Carts with free first load of fruits and/or vegetables to mildly disabled or deaf or transgender people to earn their living.
## **Restoration of vision**
To restore vision of poor people to make their living and perform daily tasks.
## **Gifts of Garments**
We have sent 1100 bridal dresses and £50,000 worth of uniforms in the last 18 months.
## **Free Mobile Healthcare**
This project provides free of cost health care to remote areas of Pakistan. Each mobile healthcare consists of a Doctor and an Assistant and cover altogether 7 villages for free consultation and medication. We provide healthcare to facility to 27,000 patients per year.
## **Lower Limb Prosthesis**
This project has been started to eradicate disability and improve quality of life. The lower limbs prosthesis fitted have 10 years warranty and free after care support which is ongoing.
## **Food provision in the UK**
We have helped over 1400 families across the UK to receive the grocery/food packs, prescription medication at their door, and this includes the shelters and homes for the disabled.
## **Admission to Medical School**
Under the leadership of Dr Abdul Hafeez, Dr Iram Butt and Dr Ashbal, this project has been able to train students for better statement and interview technique to gain admission in Medical Schools. In 2020, there were 84 successful students to gain admission in Medical Schools and in 2021 the number is slightly less at 71.

## _**The main activities undertaken during the period to further the charity's purpose for the public benefit.**_
All projects carried out by APPSUK Foundation fall under the scope of public benefit. Apart from what has been mentioned above the charity is providing gifts of medical instruments particularly respiratory and diabetic care to the hospitals in rural areas of Pakistan. Apart from providing food packs to the needy in the UK, there are other projects running parallel to the UK programme which provide grocerries to poor and needy families in Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, India, Yemen and Bangladesh. The charity also helped to build a comminity centre in Mali which is serving the local population. Some members of APPS UK Foundation provide regular tution support to the GCSE and A- Levels students so that they can achieve their desired grades. Another project with the name of 'standby2donate4funeral' has been set up to provide financial assistance for respectful burial of a muslim in the UK with no family to pay or unable to pay. 'Book Club' is another popular project run by members of APPS UK Foundation. The group reads a discuss books with profound impact on personal and spiritual development. The first book to discuss was "Conversation with God" by Neale Donald Walsch followed by Q&A. The charity is also running community matrimonial programes. the project has been extremely successful in finding matrimonial match for Muslim Children. This was free to join until 01-052021 when £12 Sadqa or Zakat donation was applied. This project has so far achieved 1500 successful result with excellent feedback.
During the same year the charity started another much needed project which helps the HearingImpaired children. The project cares for the hearing impaired children and their special schools. We arrange free medical camps and provide free hearing aids and accessories.
During the last year the charity continued to work through mobile health clinics in remote areas of Pakistan. These clinics are now seeing more than 200 patients a day and providing free of cost medicines to the poorest of the poor. These clinics are successfully running till date.
The charity had to sign a MOU with AlMustafa Trust in Pakistan to get the support and infra structure from its experience. AlMustafa is a large Charity organisation in Pakistan which is running more than 20 hospitals / clinics in different areas of Pakistan free of cost for poor and deserving people.
The average running cost of the clinics, including purchasing of free medicines and salaries of the medical staff is approximately £2000 per month. The free clinics are increasingly popular amongst the poor rural population. We are now seeing on an average approximately 100 to 120 patients in each clinic every day. This makes a total of 4,800 patients a month. A proper record of patients seen, and medicines is being maintained.
The charity also contributed towards establishing an audiology centre in one of the hospitals in Karachi (Pakistan) with latest state of the art equipment and is running successfully to date. APPSUK Foundation also held number of fund raising events in Manchester, Birmingham and London to raise the funds for our projects.

## **Structure, governance and management of the charity** _**The methods used to recruit and appoint new charity trustees.**_
## **Recruitment and appointment of Trustees**
The existing trustees are responsible for the recruitment of new trustees but in doing so the trustees adhere to the governing documents, and additionally seek the views and recommendations of respected members. Trustees are selected on the basis of their skills, experience and networks, and the needs of the Charity.
In selecting new trustees, the Charity seeks to identify people who regularly attend events and functions organised by the Charity and are willing to volunteer to help in the local community and charitable activities.
An assessment of their character, honesty, integrity, interpersonal skills and adherence to common British values is made. New trustees are also selected on the basis of their skills, experience and qualifications in order to further enhance the existing management team. Potential trustees are initially invited to attend trustees meetings as observers and are given further details of the Charity’s objectives and activities. Subsequently if both the existing trustees and proposed new trustee agree, then s/he is proposed as a new trustee after observing a minimum of three meetings. This process allows due consideration of the person’s commitment, personal competence and specialist knowledge and skills.

The trustees consider the financial performance by the charity during the year have been satisfactory.
## _**Availability and adequacy of assets of each of the funds**_
The trustees are satisfied that the Charity’s assets in each fund are available and adequate to fulfil its obligations in respect of each fund.
## **Plans For the Future**
## _**Summary of plans for the future and the trustees' perspective of the future direction of the charity.**_
i. The charity plans to continue to run the free mobile clinics.
ii. Train the midwives working in rural areas to recognise early post-partum haemorrhage and refer the patient to health facility hence saving lives of mothers and neonates. iii. To hold an International Medical Conference in London and invite doctors from all over the world to read their papers.
iv. To work on a yellow bin project in Pakistan to dispose off sharps securely and avoid needle stick injuries and hence spread of hepatitis C.
v. Fund raising to open another set of free clinics in remote areas of Baluchistan.

## **Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities**
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities Act 2011 and the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. Notwithstanding the explicit requirement in the extant statutory regulations,the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008, to prepare the financial statements in accordance with the SORP 2005, in view of the fact that the SORP 2005 has been withdrawn, the Trustees determined to interpret this responsibility as requiring them to follow current best practice and prepare the accounts according to the FRSSE SORP 2015.
In particular, charity law requires the Trustees, if they prepare accounts on an accruals basis, to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity as at the end of the financial year and of the surplus or deficit of the charity. In preparing those financial statements the Trustees are required to :-
- to prepare the accounts in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (United Kingdom Accounting Standards and applicable law).
- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and
- prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
- state whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practice have been followed , subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
The law requires that the trustees must not approve the accounts unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the surplus or deficit of the charity for the year.
TheTrustees are also responsible for maintaining adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and which are sufficient to show and explain the charity's transactions and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with regulations made under the charity legislation. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
The Trustees are also responsible for the contents of the Trustees' report, and the statutory responsibility of the Independent Examiner in relation to the Trustees' report is limited to examining the report and ensuring that , on the face of the report, there are no material inconsistencies with the figures disclosed in the financial statements.

## **1 Accounting policies**
## **Policies relating to the production of the accounts.**
## _**Basis of preparation and accounting convention**_
The accounts have been prepared on the accruals basis, under the historical cost convention, and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities' (effective January 2015) and 'The FRSSE Statement of Recommended Accounting Practice 2015', (The SORP 2015), and in accordance with all applicable law in the charity's jurisdiction of registration, except that the charity has prepared the financial statements in accordance with the FRSSE SORP 2015 in preference to the previous SORP, the SORP 2005, which has been withdrawn, notwithstanding the fact that the extant statutory regulations, the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 refer explicitly to the SORP 2005. This has been done to accord with current best practice.
## **2** _**Tangible fixed assets**_
Tangible fixed assets are measured at their original cost value, or subsequent revaluation, or if donated, as described above. Cost value includes all costs expended in bringing the asset into its intended working condition.
Depreciation has been provided at the following rates in order to write off the assets to their anticipated residual value over their estimated useful lives.

## **3 Liability to taxation**
As a registered charity, the organisation is exempt from income and corporation tax to the extent that its income and gains are applied towards the charitable objects of the charity and for no other purpose. Value Added Tax is not recoverable by the charity, and is therefore included in the relevant costs in the Statement of Financial Activities.

## **Report of the Independent Examiner to the Trustees of the charity on the accounts for the year ended 30 June 2020**
I report on the financial statements of the charity on pages 6 to 8 for the period ended 30 June 2020 which have been prepared in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) and with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (FRSSE), effective January 2015, as modified by the Statement of Recommended Practice for Accounting and Reporting issued by the Charity Commission for England & Wales, effective January 2015 (The SORP), under the historical cost convention and the accounting policies set out on page 9.
## **Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Independent Examiner**
As described on page 1, the charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts.
As described on page 9, you, the charity's Trustees, are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 and all other applicable law and with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice, applicable to smaller entities, and for being satisfied that the financial statements give a true and fair view.
The Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Section 144(1) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) does not apply, and that there is no requirement in the governing documents of the charity for the conducting of an audit. As a consequence, theTrustees have elected that the financial statements be subject to independent examination.
Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit under any legal provision, or otherwise, and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to:-
- a) examine the accounts under section 145 of the Act;
- b) follow the procedures in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act; and;
- c) state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of Examiner's Statement and scope of work undertaken**
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under s145 of the Act. In carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act setting out the duties of an independent examiner in relation to the conducting of an independent examination. An independent examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and of the accounting systems employed by the charity and a comparison of the financial statements presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements, and seeking explanations from you, as Trustees, concerning such matters. The purpose of the examination is to establish as far as possible that there have been no breaches of charity legislation and that, on a test basis of evidence relevant to the amounts and disclosures made, the financial statements comply with the SORP.
The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and information supplied by the Trustees in the course of the examination is not subjected to audit tests or enquiries and does not cover all the matters that an auditor would consider in arriving at an opinion. The planning and conduct of an audit goes beyond the limited assurance that an independent examination can provide
Consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the financial statements, and in particular, I express no opinion as to whether the financial statements give a true and fair view of the affairs of the charity, and my report is limited to the matters set out in the statement below.
I planned and performed my examination so as to satisfy myself that the objectives of the independent examination are achieved and before finalising the report I obtained written assurances from the Trustees of all material matters.

## **Independent Examiner's Statement, Report and Opinion**
Subject to the limitations upon the scope of my work as detailed above, I have completed my examination: and can confirm that:-
This is a report in respect of an examination carried out under 145 of the Act and in accordance with Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act which may be applicable;
and that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:-
accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by with Section 130 of The Charities Act 2011;
the financial statements do not accord with those records; or
the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair' view, which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination;
have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles set out in the Statememt of Recommended Practice-Accounting and Reporting by Charities (effective January 2015)
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.
