Annual report for year ending October 31, 2022

Making Waves: Charity number 1163912

The aims of the Making Waves charity are to support people with learning difficulties and/or physical difficulties living in West Yorkshire to help them lead full and purposeful lives in their communities. It primarily helps those who attend the Waves Day Care Centre in Slaithwaite.

The trustees receive donations, consider applications and provide support where it is deemed appropriate. The charity has no fixed costs, running costs or expenditure to which it is committed in advance.

Money for the charity comes from fundraising organised mainly by staff from the Waves Day Care Centre, Waves members, their families and friends along with anyone else who wants to help the charity. Charitable income also comes from donations from individuals and businesses.

People can apply for help either through Waves Day Care Centre who will submit the application to Making Waves on their behalf or by emailing chairman of trustees Andrew Hirst at andyjhirst@aol.com

The trustees remain the same with Andrew Hirst as chairman, Vincent Wadsworth as treasurer, Michael Nolan as secretary along with trustees Angela Skelton and Sarah Lockwood.

There was no Christmas Fayre in November 2021 due to continuing concerns over Covid.

In the November 2021 trustees meeting an application for support for a member was approved. This involved paying for an extra day once a

week for three months and for a residential trip to the Lake District. The support for this member was £1,500.

In June 2022 Making Waves made a contribution of £5,535 for a climbing wall in Waves which was half the cost and the rest was paid for by the Waves centre.

We helped another member in March 2022 by donating £1,325 so he could go on a Waves holiday to Barra. Total outgoings for the year were £8,530 and we had £5,864 in our bank account on October 31, 2022.

The trustees have decided that they would like to maintain at least £2,000 in that account to cover for emergency requests for help.

Larger donations for the charity over the year came from a summer garden party at Waves in June 2022 (£440) and a donation of £239 from a masonic lodge. Money also came from general donations via the Making Waves Just Giving page.
