Making Waves: Charity number 1163912
The aims of the Making Waves charity is to support people with learning difficulties and/or physical difficulties living in West Yorkshire to help them lead full and purposeful lives in their communities. It primarily helps those who attend the Waves Day Care Centre in Slaithwaite.
The trustees receive donations, consider applications and provide support where it is deemed appropriate. The charity has no fixed costs, running costs or expenditure to which it is committed in advance.
Money for the charity comes from fundraising organised mainly by staff from the Waves Day Care Centre, Waves members, their families and friends along with anyone else who wants to help the charity. Charitable income also comes from donations from individuals and businesses.

The charity has a JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/making wavesjg where people can donate cash or cheques made payable to Making Waves at the Waves Day Care Centre. The money raised helps people with learning and/or physical difficulties lead full lives by helping them to meet the costs of:

Holidays, short breaks and social activities.

Day care placements and therapy.

Respite care and overnight breaks at short notice when their families are in crisis.

Equipment for the use of members at Waves Day Care Centre.

Any other way the charity trustees deem important to help improve the lives of people with learning difficulties and/or physical difficulties.
People can apply for help either through Waves Day Care Centre who will submit the application to Making Waves on their behalf or by emailing chairman of trustees Andrew Hirst at andyjhirst@aol.com
The trustees remain the same with Andrew Hirst as chairman, Vincent Wadsworth as treasurer, Michael Nolan as secretary along with trustees Angela Skelton and Sarah Lockwood.
Over the 12 months ending October 31, 2020 the charity has maintained a healthy financial total which has gone up to £9,887.93 compared to the previous year’s figure of £8,088.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on the charity as we have been unable to hold meetings or organise any events since the early
part of 2020.
Three applications to help Waves members have been approved this year and the figures were £676, £748 and £2,018, making £3,442 in total.
We also gave £668.95 to Waves for an iPad to help with communications assistance and £900 for virtual reality equipment for members to use.
Money received included several donations via the Making Waves Just Giving page, £1,000 from Boultons estate agents and several cheques from the PayPal Giving Fund.
Making Waves was the chosen charity of the Huddersfield branch of the NHS Retirement Fellowship and they donated £356.
The Christmas Fair 2019 at Waves raised £1,376.74 and a silent auction at the same event brought in a further £750.
Only one trustee meeting was held during the year on February 4, 2020 due to Covid-19 and no more fundraising events were held.
