The plan is to register OWA UK with the local authorities where the members reside. This plan is to strengthen the charity and get them involved with other charities within the local authorities, to share and gain experience with other organisations.
The branches will have an independent committee and will be able to call a meeting, invite a speaker, fundraise and open a separate bank account when needed.
OWA UK was registered with Coventry City Council Voluntary Action in 2024

Section C Objectives and activities
To promote, preserve, and protect the physical and mental health of Oromo women by seeking to advance awareness about female genital mutilation, domestic violence, and stereotypes and to advocate ending Summary of the objects of the the bad practices of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). charity set out in its governing document
To provide and assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation for Oromo women in the interest of social welfare and to improve their quality of life.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

1) Invited speakers from the NHS to speak to Oromo women in London about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

2) We organised cultural shows: music and dance to fundraise to support women victims of crime and genocide

3) We strengthened the Oromo Women Association-affiliated branch office in Bolton to reach out to Oromo women in Manchester and the West Midlands

4) Took part in UK Parliament week in November 2017, organised a cultural show; had a guest speaker over Skype, Human Rights Watch, in relation to Oromo women’s human rights violations. Displayed educational posters and played to entertain our guests/audience

5) Celebrated International Women’s Day and educated Oromo women on the purpose of this celebration. Briefed women that Oromo women had protected their rights with an institution called ‘Siqqee’ and the respect for women, which was ratified in the Gadaa System in the 15th and 16th centuries and how we lost the system when the Ethiopian Empire colonised us

6) Undertook AGM meeting and replaced two core committee members

7) Organised a social and fun day that brought all the family together and

8) Visited two members’ families whose husbands are critically ill

9) In 2024: Registered OWA UK with Coventry City Council Voluntary Action, Getting Involved.

OWA UK members are not as active as they used to be. Hence, OWA UK is in the process of strengthening its membership across the UK

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Organise the charity governance, i.e, the constitution, and consult all women to participate in drafting the principles of engagement of the Oromo women's association with its members and other charitable bodies in the UK.
Raised awareness of FGM and Domestic violence. Took part in a joint peaceful protest to address the plight of women in Oromia (Ethiopia) affected by conflict.
Create OWA UK branches across the UK. Encouraging the support of trustees during illnesses and sad periods Organised cultural events to introduce our younger generation who were born in the UK to their cultural background. Supported migrants and members who experience domestic violence Being a Voice for the Voiceless Oromo women, girls and Oromo mothers back in Oromia, Ethiopia.
Discussing with members to register OWA UK with Local Authorities wherever the members are active. Planning to create a Drop-In Centre for Oromo women working and living in Coventry.
