The charity has created 3 branches in order to enable Oromo women have access to OWA UK membership and benefit from it 

The branches are created in London, West Midlands and Bolton/Manchester The branches will have three committees and will be able to call a meeting, invite a speaker, fundraise and open a separate bank account when needed 

OWA UK celebrated international women’s Day 

OWA UK has organised three peaceful protests to support Oromo Women in Oromia, Ethiopia 

## **Section C                    Objectives and activities** 

## **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** 

To promote and preserve and protect the physical and mental health of Oromo women by seeking to advance about female genital mutilation, domestic violence, and stereotypes and to advocate ending the bad practices of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). 

To provide and assist the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation for Oromo women in the interest of social welfare and in order to improve their quality of life. 

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

- 1) We organised cultural shows: music and dance to fund raise to support women victims of crime and genocide 

- 2) We strengthened Oromo Women Association Affiliated branch office in Bolton to reach out Oromo women in Manchester and West Midlands 

- 3) Organised cultural show; had a guest speaker over Skype Human Right watch in relation to Oromo women’s human right violations. Displayed educational posters and role played to entertain our guests/audience

- 4) Celebrated International women’s day and educated Oromo women the purpose of this celebration. Briefed women that Oromo women had protected their rights with institution called ‘Siqqee’ and the respect for women which was ratified in Gadaa System in 15th and 16th century and how we lost the system when we were colonised by Ethiopian Empire 

- 5) Undertook AGM meeting and replaced two core committee members 

- 6) Organised social and fun day that brought all the family together and 

- 7) Visited two member’s family whose husband are critically ill

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

Organise the charity governance i.e constitution and consult all women to participate in drafting the principles of engagement of Oromo women association with its members and other charitable bodies in the UK. 

Raised awareness of FGM and Domestic violence. Took part in joint peaceful protest to address the plight of women in Oromia (Ethiopia) affected by conflict. 

Strengthened branch of OWA UK in London, Bolton and West Midlands - delegated responsibilities for trustees to run local responsibilities and fund raise. 

Encouraging support of trustees during illnesses and sad period Organised cultural events to introduce our younger generation who are born in UK 

Supported migrants and members who experience domestic violence 

Undertaken three peaceful protest against the brutal government of Ethiopia
