## **Kent Minds Report on Activity 1[st] April 2023 – 31[st] March 2024** 

During 2023 we celebrated 8 years of fundraising for Kent Mental Health Charities and we were able to send our supporters a newsletter thanking them for their generous support over the years.  We reminded them that we always visit the charities that we fund and our committee members have been able to experience first hand the valuable assistance that these charities are able to provide to their clients. 

## **Fund Raising Activity** 

## Summer Drinks in The Garden 

In June 2023 Mr and Mrs Nigel Snape were kind enough to offer us their beautiful garden in the Alkham Valley and we decided to invite our supporters to a drinks party with the opportunity to explore the gardens.  The Committee as usual prepared and served the canapes and we were honoured to be able to serve Kentish sparkling fizz kindly donated by one of our longstanding supporters.  Over 100 guests were able to hear from the chief executive of Bechange a charity based in East Kent that works with adults, families and young people who need support to make lasting change to reach positive futures, in communities in the Aylesham and surrounding areas..  The evening raised over £3,000 and we were delighted to be able to make a significant contribution to their work in the county. 

## **Grant Making Activity** 

During the year we gave three grants to organisations that made successful grant applications to us. 

Firstly, we gave £2,500 to **The Hope Box Initiative** , a charity set up by a mother who lost her son and suffered badly from a mental health breakdown.  The charity seeks to comfort and help those mothers in a similar situation and also creates a strong community for them to comfort each other. 

Secondly, as referred to above, we were able to give £2,500 to Bechange. 

Finally, we donated £1,000  to the Amber Foundation, which uses residential centres in Kent, Surrey, Wiltshire and Devon, offering a supported housing environment delivered to be a bit different. Amber gives training and support to address specific personal issues as well as new experiences and opportunities that raise aspiration and challenge young people to take responsibility for their lives and move forward positively. 

## **Future Plans** 

The committee decided that during 2024, we would develop a more major event than our historic fundraisers, and we hope to deliver an evening of opera for many of our supporters during the summer. 

## **Conclusion** 

This year we continued to attempt to recruit some younger members but still found that the younger generation are mostly busy working during the day and have little time to help our committee.  However, we do believe that our work in the County does continue to highlight the need for mental health support and we are continually grateful to our supporters for their generous donations which encourage us to keep fund raising.
