## **Kent Minds** ## Report on Activity 1[st] April 2020 – 31[st] March 2021 This financial period has been particularly hard for the Trustees and Fundraising Committee of Kent Minds CIO with the impact of COVID 19 making face to face events impossible set against the spectre of the increasing likelihood of a mental health crisis in the County of Kent. ## - Fundraising round up 2020 However undaunted by the inability to see our kind supporters face to face the Fundraising Committee decided to hold a ‘virtual’ Christmas raffle and an invitation to participate was mailed out to our database. The prizes kindly donated by Members included a fabulous £150 voucher to spend in Fenwick, A fantastic hamper donated by The Weald Smokery, A signed book on royal gardens from gardening author and TV personality Mark Lane, Two bottles of award-winning sparkling wines from the famous Gusbourne Vineyard in Kent and a relaxing treatment from the delightful Granary Spa at Godington Ashford. The draw took place on a snowy 9[th] December. The tickets went on sale for £10 each and the Committee were overwhelmed by the response with many of our supporters buying several tickets and some making separate donations. We raised £3,650 from ticket sales and with £1,270 from donations, as well as separate donations of £450 and £296 from gift aid the total achieved less expenses of £606 was £5,060 - £1,000 more than we had raised from our traditional Christmas Fair! Interestingly although there was the facility to pay by BACS only four supporters took advantage of this the remainder preferring to use a cheque which perhaps reflect the age profile of our supporters. We had hoped to arrange a summer drinks party when restrictions were due to be lifted in July 2020, but sadly this was not to be the case and we made the difficult decision to hold all fundraising events until the pandemic restrictions were lifted. ## **Funding Mental Health Providers** We are delighted to report that despite the difficult conditions we have been able to give funds to five charities during this period. ## _Ashford & Tenterden Umbrella £3,000_ Ashford Umbrella was founded as a charity in 1991 in Ashford as a result of a decision by the Government of the day that post-hospital care should be carried out in the home. This grant helped to provide transport for service users to attend weekly sessions. ## _Canterbury Oast Trust £2,500_ Canterbury Oast Trust (COT) is a dynamic and forward-thinking charitable trust set up in the mid1980s by a pioneering group of parents. Today we support adults with learning disabilities across Kent and East Sussex to live independently and take control of their lives. This grant helped to support life skills training for adults with learning difficulties. _Dandelion Time £500_ Dandelion Time offers help to children with very challenging emotional issues, often resulting from trauma, violence or serious health difficulties in the family. This grant helped with the maintenance of a donkey that provide emotional support for the children. ## _Oasis Domestic Abuse Service £1,500_ Oasis has been working to support people affected by abuse for over 22 years - in this time they have developed guiding principles that shape the way they work. The Kent Minds grant was used to increase the number of workshops available to victims of abuse. ## _Wye Food Bank £500_ Wye food bank is a charity that provides food to people who have difficulty buying enough. They provide a home delivery service for people living in rural areas and those who are unable to get to a food bank. We are aware that there are many people living with mental health difficulties who have been unable access healthy food during the pandemic. A simple donation for the purchase of food recognising the importance of diet to the enhancement of mental health. ## Conclusion It is becoming increasingly difficult to find truly effective ways to raise funds in the current charitable landscape, however we are confident that our team will rise to this challenge in a skilful and imaginative fashion!
