Tha char'ty's objects ar8 specifically restricted lo the adv8ncemenl of health for the public benefit by promoting
care for Ihoso with haemoglobin disorders and study and research In haèmoglobin disorders and the publlcalion
of useful resutts.
Tha chaTty will continue to provide peer review and condud cours&$ for the odvancemenl ol thè health
professlon on the sublect of thg blood disorders, sickle cell dlsea5e and thalassaemla.
The Iruslees have paid due regard to guldan¢e18sued by the Charty Commission in deciding what aclivilias the
ohartly should undertake.

Peer R•vlew
The UKFHD conldbuted £45,000 and VAT towards the wsts of the peer review program led by Dr Emma Dralar.
which commenced on 17th October 2024 al Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. and Is due lo be
completed with a fin81 M$il on 12th September 2025 al Barkbng 8nd Havering NHS Foundallon Tru51s al Queens
Hospital Sn Romford. R&viow aim$ lo attend all SHTS and HCCS in England. Host Trust$ are diredly invoiced for
the remainder of the costs of th8 r•view including SUPPOrt for clinical leads to wrfte Ihe peer revlew reports, al
£5,900 per stsmce.
For each v63il. thè le￿•W teams complete a pr8-wsi¢ review of submitted evidence from the $pecialSs1
haemoglobinopalhy and coordinating centre teams. This gvidenca assessment is completed virtualty. bèforè tha
physical visit to the Hospital silè Ss undertaken. The adminislralionllogistic support for the peer review
programme was ujnlracted lo, and is undertaken by an external company. NHS Mldlands and Lancashire, led by
Ms Sarah Brctimhead, Professlonal Lead for Nursing and Urgent Care Dbrectorale.

We continued lo organi$e 2 academic meetings per year, In 2024 these were h&ld'.
8th May 2024, the 5Ph Educational meeting was hgld at the IET in Birmingharn, this was originally planned lo be
an in person *Jnly meetbng bul then had lo be ¢h8nged last minute lo a hybrid meetlng due lo Industrlal action gn
the railways. The meeting was org8nSsed, as usual in partnership with the Hartley Taylor team LTD1040293001.
The mornlng sessions focu8èd on a case presentation from a resident doctor colleagu&, thgn a tslk on gene
therapy from Prof de la Fuenle ol Imperial Colltrg&, London, followed by a talk on fertility presÈNalion by Dr
Vikram Talaulikar of UCH London. Then we had a vibrant and inleraetive round table with transplant coll8agug5-,
Dr Ben Carpèntar. Dr Bgki Jame$ and Dr Subarna Chakravorty, as well as rèd cell colleagues Dr Amy Webster,
and Dr P&rla EWth&rfoy and Ms Roanna Maharaj as a palbènl represenlalive. The round table focused on the
¢urrenl pathways for curative Iheraplas and gene Ihwapy, indicallons, concorns and outcome. There was an
update from tho pallent soci8lle$ and the aftemoon session chaiied by Dr Kata Gardner focused on ageing In
haemogloblnop8thies, wllh talks from Dr Shivan PanGham, Dr Kale Gardner, Psychologist Dr Ruth Anderson and
Fraity physiclan Dr Huma Naqvl from Blmiingham and Sanolvell Hospitals.

Cavendi8h Conference cenlre. The mornin9 session chaired by Dr M8ry Petrou had an update from colleagues
in Scotland on haemogloblnopathy Iherg. wo celebrated colleague5 who have left tha NHS. Or Samah Babiker
presented for Prof Inu8a whts has retired and moved into industry, Dr Clare Samue180n presented on behaw of Dr
Josh Vvrighl and Dr Emma Drasar on bahaif of Df Farrukh Shah who was the preceding Chaii of the UK Forum.
Thore were also présontations on the role of dielelics from Dr C18udin8 Matthes, Endocrinology in Th818gsaem58
by Dr Julian W8ung. The afternoon sessions had presentslions from Prof Noemi Roy on NEQAS, then we
focused on strokes In adults wilh pre$gnl8lion$ by Dr Paul Holmes, Dr Anupama KrSshnamoorthi la case study}
and Mr Cristo8 Toll88. Then we conduded wrth a CRG update and the launch of the new RCN Nursing
competencles.
There was an additional symposium from Vertex on Gene Therapy. whlch members could elect lo slay on lor at
the dose of ihe day,
Both academic me&llng8 had engagement from more than 100 att8ndee8 wllh excellent f99dback,

After November 2024. wè moved iwo of the trustee and committee meetings lo coincide with tha educational
