Hungarian School Oxford Charity Report of trustees for the year ending 31 August 2025

The Governors of the Hungarian School Oxford Charity present their annual report and audited accounts for the year ended 31 August 2025 and confirm they comply with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011, the trust deed and the Charities SORP (FRS 102).

The Charity is managed by five trustees as follows: Agnes Bodoni - Chair Eniko Nagy - Secretary and Teacher Coordinator Maria Vernicos - Treasurer Monika Bangha - Public Relations Eva Beregi – Administrator

HSO has invited any members to consider joining the Committee as a trustee. New Trustees can be appointed by a resolution of the existing Trustees. We provide necessary training to the newly appointed trustees by making any information about HSO available.

OUR AIMS:

The HSO’s principal aim is to establish a strong and authentic sense of community for people with Hungarian connections in Oxford and the surrounding areas. Its mission is to promote Hungarian cultural excellence through different activities. The beneficiaries are our pupils, their families, the teachers and also general public at open events.

OUR OBJECTIVES:

The objective of HSO is to provide Hungarian language and cultural education for families who live in Oxfordshire for the benefit of the public.

REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

From September 2024, the Trustees of the Hungarian School of Oxford decided to discontinue the regular meetings and activities previously offered. Saturday School sessions ceased from that date.

The Trustees also chose to expand the charity’s focus by offering events not only for families with children but also for adults interested in Hungarian culture.

During the year, we organised two cultural events: the Hungarian Farsang (Carnival): 15.02.2025

and the Advent celebration: 23.11.2024

‑ We launched a Hungarian Book Club, which holds regular monthly meetings and supports author related activities, including Zoom discussions, meet ‑ the ‑ author events, and museum visits for our members.

We continued to operate our Facebook page as a platform to inform the wider public about our activities: https://www.facebook.com/OxfordiMagyarKulturalisEgyesulet (in Hungarian) and

https://www.facebook.com/magyariskolaoxford

Notes: As a next step, we intend to change the name of the charity to reflect our shift from offering activities primarily for children and families to serving both families and adults. The new name proposed by the Trustees is Oxford Hungarian Cultural Hub (in Hungarian: Oxfordi Magyar Kulturalis Egyesulet)
