Knottingley Foodbank (KFB) continues to meet its objective of serving the people of Knottingley and surrounding areas by providing food for clients who are suffering food poverty or are in a crisis situation. KFB is registered with the Charity Commission [charity no 1163711] and remains a franchisee of Trussell.

This year has had a number of challenges, however the foodbank has dealt well with the ongoing demand from the local community. We have delivered thousands of kilos of emergency food to clients in need of our service. We have also managed to deliver innovative projects such as our financial inclusion scheme that has had a major impact on the wider community. Total number of vouchers filled - 1,081 Adults 1,553 Children 732 Total 2,285 Total weight of food distributed direct to clients - 21,285.45kg. Total weight distributed to other agencies - 2,758.45kg

As Chair of Trustees, I want to thank our volunteers for their continued support, ensuring KFB meets its objectives. I would also like to thank our Project Manager, Pete Girt, for his continued hard work and dedication to KFB, as well as my fellow Trustees.

Last but no means least I would like to recognise and thank the continued generosity of all our donors, both small and large. We continue to be supported by Tesco at Hemsworth, Morrison's and Lidl at Knottingley, Enfinium and TKMAXX, and a growing number of local businesses. Local churches, schools and individuals continue to contribute as often as they can, no donation is too small. This support enables KFB meet its objective in supporting the needs of local people in crisis situations facing food poverty.

The charity's objects

The prevention and relief of poverty in Knottingley and the surrounding area, particularly but not exclusively by providing emergency food and supplies to individuals / families in need and also by signposting people to appropriate support agencies.

The prevention and relief of poverty in Knottingley and the surrounding area, particularly but not exclusively, by providing free emergency food and supplies to individuals/families in need, and also by signposting people to appropriate support agencies. The Trustees of Knottingley Foodbank are franchisees of the Trussell Trust foodbank network and subscribe to its aims, vision and work processes.

Public benefit statement

In setting our objectives and planning our activities our Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit.

Achievements and performance

The foodbank has dealt well with the ongoing demand from the local community in challenging circumstances this year. We have delivered thousands of days worth of emergency food to clients in need of our service. We have also managed to deliver innovative projects such as our financial inclusion scheme that has had a major impact on the wider community.

Financial review

The net payments for the year were £11,099, including net payments of £12,632 on unrestricted funds and net receipts of £1,533 on restricted funds, after transfers.

Reserves policy

The charity's free reserves, at the year end were £48,302.

The trustees aim to maintain reserves in order to enable the smooth running of the charity and to allow for an orderly winding up should the charity need to close. The policy is to retain approximately 6 months of future budgeted annual expenditure.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the CIO for the year ended 4 April 2025, which are set out on pages 5 to 8.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the CIO you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').

I report in respect of my examination of the CIO's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Charities Act; 2 the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1 Accounting policies

Basis of accounting

The trustees have taken advantage of section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 and have prepared the accounts on a receipts and payments basis.

There has been no change to the accounting policies since last year.

No changes have been made to the accounts for previous years.

Taxation

As a charity the organisation benefits from rates relief and is generally exempt from income tax and capital gains tax but not from VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the cost of those items to which it relates.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity.

Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure imposed by the donor or through the terms of an appeal.

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the accounts.
