Old Malton War Memorial Hall 

Trustees/ Chairmans Report October 2021 

The hall has undergone a difficult year with several of the committee resigning due to work commitments and the pandemic but we emerge into another year as “Hall custodians” with renewed enthusiasm with several new committee members who have new ideas and drive. 

As reported we have completed the work on the toilets and can now provide a re-vamped multi-sex toilet as well as separate disabled unit. Along with a new disabled ramp we feel that the hall is now much more accessible for all. The above work was completed with funding help from Malton Town council and grants obtained during closure. 

We have approached a building company, Duchy Homes who are building a new estate in the village and they have agreed to provide us with a new kitchen. This has been installed and completion is expected shortly. We now have a modernised section of the hall which makes it much more attractive for potential hire. We hope to move on shortly to the ceiling and floor in the main hall which is in need of renovation. The committee report, at last to being proud of the hall and we hope that the return to normality will bring along extra usage. 

We recently held a musical evening to celebrate the hall re-opening and over £500 was raised towards the ceiling project. We have been host to a travelling theatre group and also held a Halloween party with over 95 kids there all in fancy dress. The use of the hall for children’s parties shows real potential. 

We now have proper part –time cleaner and gardener helping to keep the place looking tidy. 

The hall continues to be used by a variety of groups including over 60’s keep –fit , pilates, Zumba, Ryedale special families, Village Bingo, etc ,etc.
