This report outlines the key activities, achievements, and financial performance of the organisation over the past year, in accordance with our governing document and the requirements of the Charity Commission. ## **Objectives and Activities** Our charity’s principal objectives remain to advance our charitable purposes for the public benefit and for dogs in need. Staffie and Stray rescue seek to relieve the suffering of dogs, particularly Staffordshire bull terriers, in need of care and attention by placing dogs into foster homes or boarding kennels whilst permanent homes are found for them. The charities activities include but are not limited to: 1. Thorough registration processes to assess whether homes are suitable to foster or adopt a dog. This includes ensuring that all potential adopters and fosterers complete an application form, complete a veterinary check to explore previous care of an animal and are also home checked to further confirm suitability. Return clients of the rescue are to have this process repeated if they have not used the rescues services for over 5 years and if they have moved home in this time. 2. Ensuring all dogs that come through the rescue are seen by a vet for a health check, are microchipped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and are up to date with flea and worming treatment. 3. Supporting the local authorities and assisting dogs that come though dog wardens/police/social services/housing officers 4. Supporting the public who may wish to surrender their dog 5. Provide thorough dog assessments ensuring that dogs are safe to rehome. 6. Offering support to both foster and forever homes, offering behavioural advice and training, as well as instructions on administering medication or aftercare following surgery. 7. Planning and organising fundraising events throughout the year to ensure that funds are available for rescues objectives and activities to be carried out. 8. Ensuring the smooth running and staffing of the charities two charity shops, which provide a huge source of income, helping to cover high veterinary and kennelling bills. All activities are supported by personal fundraising and relied upon donations from the public. ## **Achievements and Performance** On 1[st] January 2025, Staffie and Stray Rescue took on a new partnership with Dorset Council. They had sadly lost their contract with another rescue and were struggling to find a placement for their stray dogs to go. The rescue has taken on a large number of Dorset stray dogs and a mixture of different breeds. This has opened up a new client base for Staffie and Stray Rescue as we are typically known as a bull breed rescue. It has been a great opportunity to learn more about different breeds and to help rehome them to families who otherwise may not approach us to adopt a dog. In line with this, we also moved kennel facility which is slightly closer to Bournemouth and also more cost effective, saving on both fuel and individual kennel costs. This change in how the rescue operates has put extra pressure and strain on time and resources due to the extra dogs coming in and looking for homes, however we are pleased to have managed to cope and have helped many more dogs this year. ## **Contribution made by Volunteers** Staffie and Stray Rescue would like to thank all volunteers who have dedicated time and effort into supporting the rescue. Volunteers are a huge asset to the rescue and their contributions are invaluable. ## **Financial Review** The Trustees have reviewed the financial statements and have expressed concerns for the loss for a second year in a row. Meetings have been carried out to discuss how best to save money and cuts have been made as a result. Further cuts are likely to be made in order for the rescue to sustain. One of our full-time positions unfortunately did not work out, however we took on two part timers in place of this which enabled more flexibility within our teams. Reserves remain relatively healthy in the event of an emergency where extra funds are needed. ## **Reserves** Staffie and Stray Rescue’s reserves are also part of the charities “Kennel Fund”, as a long-term plan for the rescue is to have our own kennels and centre. At present, this separate account also acts as reserves. We bank donations from our collection pots into this account. ## **Structure, Governance and Management** The Board of Trustees meets regularly to oversee the charity’s strategy and operations. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144) of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is required. It is our responsibility to: - examine the accounts (under section 145(1)(a) of the 2011 Act); - to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under section 145(5)(b)) of the 2011 Act); and - to state whether particular matters have come to our attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner’s report** My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently we do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. ## **STAFFIE AND STRAY RESCUE** ## **Independent examiner’s statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: - (1) which gives us reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act - have not been met; or - (2) to which, in our opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
